I need someone to go over to LSE and change the plugs in my STI, I would do it but in 250 miles away, I need it done Saturday or by Sunday afternoon. Let me know what you want for doing it. Rich
Does it have to be done there? Where are the plugs? I just did my rex last weekend...only took a couple of hours, and I'm slow!
what the hell..... the book (alldatapro) calls for 3 hrs (2.2 manufacturers warranty).... how the hell can they charge that much for 1hr 1.5hrs work tops... pull airbox, pull washer bottle and battery.. remove plugs... whats the big deal for plugs.. how can you ask 4-5hrs... they making the plugs??? is there somehtign different about the STi over the wrx??? Hate to say it Rich but where else are they shagging you for working on your car??? I wish my shop was closer I would give it a shot for ya.. but there will be enough guys there standing around, I am sure couple fo them could throw them in for ya!!?!!?!
if someone can do it could they also pick up the plugs and I will pm them the money.I have plugs at home but thats not any help. Kellys going to stop by sunday and see if he can get it to start.
I am guessing there is not to much in the way on your car in terms of battery and such.. Do you have someone to do it?? If not I could possibly do it...
I dont have anyone yet, if you can do it that would be great. I tried PMing driftin 240 he said he might be able to do it
If someone is going out there i can help. I have never changed plugs on a 2.5l before so i dont wanna attempt it alone (not my car).
man that is really really uncool of the lse guys...I mean u are already bringing them buesines....well anyways...I know we have good guys here that should help u...I would help but I work open to close...
Unfortunately I had to leave early yesterday for work, and pored like a sumbitch when I was there. LMK if nobody can today. I could run up there this week to take care of it.
I needed it done this weekend, im probably going to have to rent a trailer and get it back home this week, thanks for trying.
ok, i have a final until 4:30. but after that i have nothing, till sat. are there plugs there or do i need to pick some up? and got any tricks for doing these plugs, i have never worked on a ej25 or ej20 before. i am pretty sure i can figure it out, but little pointers might save time.
I looked at the book and it said 3 hours so I re-pm'd you for the 2.5-3 hour quote. John said it should take around 4 hours so that is what I said in the initial private message. "Book" time does not count for having to remove aftermarket intercooler piping, along with a host of other things than can get in the way. I swear you are dammed if you do, dammed if you don't. In all honestly there is an issue with the ignition system. It is either the plugs (hopefully), coils (haven't tested them), or a wiring issue. All I know is I got yet another car in not as described. The car was 100% different than from what I was expecting to show up. "Ready to dyno" does not mean: 1) Out of fuel 2) Unsure oil pressure to a turbo to where I have to do some diagnostic work on it. 3) A vehicle that smokes out of the exhaust 4) A car that does not start after it has been dropped off. We are more than capable of fixing stuff, but when we are expected to do it for free and stay on schedule? You HAVE to be kidding me. This is a business, not a nursery school. I do not have time to babysit cars and nurse owners along the way. When something shows up not as described I have to put it at the end of MY schedule. I fix and tune cars for a living. If I have a car with an appointment or a dyno day, I keep that schedule. If I have a car that needs a standalone installed, bugs worked out, etc...I keep to that schedule as well. The issue is your car went from my "ready to go" to the "please fix issues" schedule. Unfortunally for you, that schedule is a few weeks out (maybe earlier if some of the stuff I am working on cooperates). Making a post like this is very uncool, and I am about ready to tell you to come get your car, or start charging you storage fees. Otherwise I should have time to look at it the week of the 14th. I can possible have a tech swap out the plugs before than and take a quick peak at the car, but if it is more than wires and requires some diagnostic time, I am booked up on that. I expect a PM tommorrow with a resolution. I appologize the 16 hour days are not enough to keep up with our current schedule, I will just have to adjust the shop labor rate to avoid projects like this. -Josh Ninja edit: Again I do not want hard feelings, bad blood, or a poor product being released. Your vehicle is in a state not as described, that is totally fine. But I can not devote alot of time away from my pre-scheduled time, to work on your car. Otherwise I end up with 6+ people pissed off at me their project got bumped. The vehicle is putting me in a rock and a hardplace. I have you telling me stories about how Matt blew it up. I have Matt telling me stories about how YOU blew it up. I have a peanut gallery of other people giving me information on the car as well. In the end, I just want to get it tuned for you like initially stated. If I do not end up tuning it, that is fine, as long as in the end the CUSTOMER (you) is happy with the end result. That is all that really matters to me, people being satisified with a service we do, or do not, provide.
Also, I said it would be fine to have someone come swap out the plugs. I have to charge book time as it is how the technicians are paid. It is a QUOTE, it is not like I swapped the plugs and then added 4 hours to your bill, THAT would be shaddy. I was just informing you that from first glance, it appears to be somewhat time consuming. I am more than willing to let someone swap the stuff out in the parking lot in an effort to try to save you money, and to not totally screw over our shop schedule. Hopefully we can get this resolved without TOOO much drama.
Chiltons labor guide: Subaru: Spark Plug Replace (B) 4 cyl .... 1996-2004. 1.8L, 2.2L, .7 hours labor, .9 labor severe 2.0L 2.9 hour labor, 3.2 labor severe 2.5L 1.2 hour labor, 1.4 hour severe (B) is for a skilled technican: "A technician with one or more certification(s) who has knowledge of operating systems and can make accurate diagnosis using test equipment." Labor time is a law of average. In honestly, we have been doing "this" for enough time to estimate accuratly how long it will take. If we estimate a job to take 6 hours, and it takes us 4, we charge 4. If we estimate a job at 6 hours and it takes us 8 and we were busting ass to do it, we charge 6.5 as we try to stand behind our estimate 100%. Sorry for shooting high on your spark plug/possible other diagnostic labor and causing an epidemic Rich.
yep.. I hear that.... i did petes on saturday.. took maybe 45mins with out the window washer bottle and airbox etc there... but 2-2.5hr book time is psot on...
and that chiltons guide may be ripping you off now.. ha ha ha Alldatapro called for 2.5hrs I believe adnn 1.5 warranty hrs... like I said above.. I changed petes out in about 45misn with a hot engine on saturday and if teh chiltons calls for a B grade tech then I am a B- by my estimates and it only took me that long... but again i didnt have to remove an air box, or a washer bottle or any other piping etc... I persoanlly was little surprised for the 4-5 hr qoute and you have done the right hting with your posts above... I wasnt getting on your case.. I run a shop too and understand that whole a customer things he can do it in half the time that you charge... my solution... "Well go have fun doing it in your driveway then sir" - otherwise they wouldnt be standing there asking you... ha ha
This is exactly why I try to do everything as DIY as I possibly can (from putting the legos together to haX0ring the car brains) -- it stinks when you have to rely on somebody else. I also feel for Josh @ LSE -- he seems like a really cool cat who's just trying to make a living out of an awesome hobby. Much respect to anyone who is trying to run a profitable yet honest business. I wouldn't be able to do it.
I never had a problem, I just didnt want to pay 4-5 hrs shop rate to change plugs, and my car was running when I brang it in but after no one looked at it for over 2 weeks it didnt start. It had been starting fine prior to that. I asked for you to put a T in the oil pressure line to check the pressure to the turbo. i didnt know that would be such a hassle for you. Sorry for not having fuel, it was supposed to be filled up but that person forgot.
We are more than capable of fixing stuff, but when we are expected to do it for free and stay on schedule? You HAVE to be kidding me. I never asked for it to be fixed free. Making a post like this is very uncool, and I am about ready to tell you to come get your car, or start charging you storage fees. Otherwise I should have time to look at it the week of the 14th. why is it uncool to ask someone to do it for me?? I never said anything bad about you or the shop.
Just to clarify since we have so many Matt's on the board. You would be talking about Matt Zawada (sp?) correct?
lol...let's make sure we have the right person...With so many Matt's on this board, let's use SN when possible...as well as names
its not you Matt I dont know where he got that I said Matt Zawada blew up my car, but oh well. The car blowing up was from the injectors burning up.
It was a Matt Z, and well that is the fun of the "rumor train". I was mearly stating that some of the information I have gotton on the car this past weekend has been somewhat alarming. Rich you have a PM. I made the post to squash any speculation that we are trying to bend over a customer. I take offense to that as we strive for 100% customer sasifaction. There has mearly been a few mis-understandings that the "rumor train" has taken control over.
everything has been straightened out, the info Josh got this weekend did not come from me, thats why you should never beleive rumors.
well if htey want to be bent over then you will aheive 100% satisfaction ha ha ha... jk... I had a real jerk off in my shop today... wanted an ACCURATE qoute on brakes when we didnt evne look at the car... then complained cause we charge a nominal fee for him wasting 30-45mins of my techs time.. his reply.. the other shop does it free... our reply.. then get in your car and go back there then...!!! yep he pissed me off and we yelled at each other until I told him to leave cause he was abusive and rude to my employee when he was trying to help...
Went up to LSE with Kelly. Put in new plugs (Thanks Brian) and car started right up, with alittle juice from the jump box.
