I have an '03 bugeye with about 80k miles on it. I notice recently that when I go from a dead stop into 1st gear, it makes a grinding noise like the shifter is hitting the gears when you shift. This only happens when I go into 1st. And yes, I am going from a complete stop to 1st gear. Anyone know what this can be? Do I need to replace my clutch or something....
worn 1st gear syncro. try a quick bump into second the to first. this should stop the gears from free wheeling. or replace the syncro
That heppens to my tranny too some times. Like once or twice a week. Is that a big deal?i wonder if it will get worse overtime?
I'm not so sure but I think mine kinda does something similar. I just slightly release the clutch then it goes in 1st gear smoothly but there's no grinding for mine. Its just hard to put in 1st. If i force it(when its still hard) I will here the grind. Its either I release the clutch slightly or rev the engine a little bit to put it in 1st gear(only sometimes). oh and by the way somebody mine telling me whats SYNCRO? all i noe is something with the gears.
