my motor broke down on me about 4 weeks ago. i was planning buy to a complete 2004 wrx engine from this one dealer. but first i talked to my cousin vick and he told me to ask you guys first if you guys knew the dealer i'm buying my motor from. the guy's name is DAVE and is located in south saint paul, his phone # is 612-760-3951. i just wanted to know if any one from mn subaru had done business with him?
another question you guys. has any one brought stuff from this website... (www.Y2Kimports.com)...i was looking to buy an complete 05 wrx engine from them for my 01 25rs...just wanted to know if they were a good vendor to buy from....thanks
I don't know anything about those guys, but was wondering if you were simply planning on bolting WRX motor into your RS.
It would bolt on but you will still need to get the engine wires(harness) from your RS and the new motor to be merged together. Talk to Fuji, he knows a lot about engine swaps. Also are you planning on swapping out your tranny too? Do some research on how to swap it yourself.
Yea, I bought my used 4/2 pot caliper setup from there. First, they sent me two of the same side front 4 pot, when I told them, they said ship it back and they'll swap it with the correct side, so I did, then they said they didn't have the correct side in stock for about 2 weeks. Eventually they just bought me a brand new 4 pot, which made everything all better. But the whole ordeal took almost a month with shipping back and forth and waiting. The price was good and they eventually came through. Apparently, some people on nasioc bought engine swaps from them, the majority seems happy. If I wasn't already swapped, I'd probably source one from them since they are basically a decently knowledgeable subaru salvage yard and closer than the west/east coast importers, although they seem to deal only in USDM stuff. I also hear ECS used to source a lot of their swap engines from them too, but something went sour I think.
Hey Cubby, for your 4pot 2pot setup, how much did you pay for your 2pot adapters? Where did you get it from the adapters? The cheapest I found for the Kartboy ones were $205 shipped. Thanks.
well this guy from nascio if offering me his whole 2002 wrx car for 3600 shipped. the car has right fender damage, but the motor seems good, plus the rest of the car is still in good condition, but the car has about 161,201 miles on it...is it still good to buy a motor with such high mileage?
For that price, I'd jump on it. You can do a direct swap of the wiring and everything, and sell a bunch of stuff to recoup some cost. I'd probably check the valve lash while the motor is out, but that's it.
thats what i was thinking too b/c the rest of the car was still good and doing a direct swap, but the mileage really caught my eyes, dont know when the engine is going to break on me.
I got the adapters off casionerd on nasioc. Apparently he's banned now for some reason lol. They are the Kartboy ones. He fitted them on his 08 wrx but decided to go another route, sold them to me pretty much brand new with all the washers and stuff he bought to make sure the hex bolts they come with would clear the rotors - that was pretty convenient and I did end up needing those washers. $180 shipped I think I got it for.
It's true you can part out the stuff you won't need on the car for some money back, and it's always better to have the entire donor car so you can swap over everything and not have to hunt down little missing bits which can really add up, but that motor would need a full refresh before you put it in. I know I wouldn't just drop it in. Seals, belts, gaskets, water pump, sensors, typical wear items at the least, and might need to crack it open and rebuild at the worst. That's gonna cost money too, and can be quite a bit depending on what you decide to replace. I dunno, after my swap experience, high mileage turbo motors just kinda turn me off.
the way to go is just buy the whole WRX donor car and swap the wire harness motor, dash & what ever else you want its much easier. Don't bother with a harness merge.
Dont lump them all into one group, the 2.0 IMO is made of glass. There are a couple of exeptions, but a greater percentage of them meet an early death then keep running for a long time. However I also think its from poor maint.
^ Agreed. 600k between three cars and not one bad oil pump. Some seals, yes. But still, to have everything like that is a great buy compared to getting a motor and a harness then paying someone $1000 to splice them together. Even if you need to buy or refresh the shortblock.
AWDImprezaL: 02 wrx is a 2.0, which is made of glass like you said. I don't understand what you're saying exactly? Are you saying since this 2.0 made it to 161,201 miles, it's the exception to the rule and should still be good? Or it's not good and would need a rebuild? piddster: I said nothing about oil pumps... I said water pump. Had to replace 2 on my last 2 engines. Sensors go out a lot too, rubber hoses crack too. This could be a good buy, but the engine should still be refreshed before install, it's easier to do that with the engine out. Probably won't need a new shorblock since it was still running fine, but new rings and bearings couldn't hurt and are relatively cheap insurance. If they go out later... gonna suck having to yank the engine again.
Misread the pump thing. I am surprised on two water pumps though. Either way, minor things aside like hoses etc, it is still the right way to go if you want a turbo motor. Hoses are trivial. What sensors go out a lot? Knock sensors I can understand, but important stuff like triggers I don't hear about.
Not saying I disagree, I do think it is the way to go. But little "trivial" things can really add up fast, making something that looks like a great deal at first, not so great when you're all done. Coils can go bad. You already mentioned the knock sensor. MAF is another. O2 sensors too. That stuff ain't cheap new, if you can find them used off members here, they're cheaper, but if you need it right now, you have to buy new.
i am about to order my engine swap tomorrow from this site (http://wrx-tx.com/swapsspecial_order)...what you guys think?
