OK i have a friend with a 01rs and his car is misfiring in cylinders 1,2,&3!!! He said the car studdards alot in all gears in between 2500 to somewhere in the mid 3000. I originally thought it was the spark plug wires so when we got in there and pulled the plug wire, oil splattered out!!! The only thing i could think of then was a bad valve cover gasket leaking oil onto the wire. Any help and or thoughts will help. Thanks in advance.

I think the oil thing is pretty common, I always have some oil around my plug wires when I change plugs. But I haven't had it cause a misfire. Maybe if he was doing a lot of hard cornering lately (parking lots?) he caused more oil than usual to leak out of the valve covers? Anyway that should be easy to clean the oil out and see what happens.

I had this happen on my 01 RS also and it was causing misfires. Common problem I was told.

I'm just saying, if he's gonna peel off the head covers, it is probably not going to be good on those old gaskets. If you are going to pull the sparkplug tube gaskets, and you have the head covers off, might as well hit all of them and make sure it doesn't happen again.
