Well i was on my way to my tutoring thing where i go teach little kids in minneapolis after school today and somthin not too good happened. I was driving and i accelerated pretty good up to about 60 because i just got my car tuned at db yesterday and was just seeing what it had in it and all the sudden i lost all power in my car and it turned off. So i coasted on to this little side road and put my hazards on, which was the scariest thing ever because i was coasting at about 20 trying to navigate through cars passing me at 65 with no power steering. Anyways, i get to the side of the road and pop the hood. The coupler to my TB was completely detached from the intercooler because its so small and the bigger top mount doesnt line up quite right. So anyways, i call up my buddy and he brings a screwdriver and we pop it back on but then i notice that, what looks like my vac line, correct me if i'm wrong, was completely ripped in half. So we duct taped that as best as we could, cuz there was no other better solution and drove it home very slowly. We then g-rided this way too big coupler onto the IC and get everythin clamed down and then made sure that the line was taped up good(which i kno is not a permantent solution). We took it for a drive and everything was fine but then when it got under considerable boost, its starts to make this almost droning, flappin noise. I'm going to take it to the dealership tomorrow and see what they can do as far as that line but i was just wonderin if you guys might know more of whats actually going on. Try not to laugh too hard when you see the coupler .
looks like a seal from a toilet bowl between your intercooler and intake... wow.. somehting dont look right... if you know it is a temporary fix then why would you get it on "CONSIDERABLE" boost before fixing it... you are just asking for BOOOOM
^I was about to say that too...The part I'm confused about is why would the vac line be ripped in half? Unless it was way to close to the TMIC that it was rubbing against it...But that is more doubtful that it would just rip...Here is a pic of my engine bay and the stock WRX IC connector to the manifold fits like a glove...Suprise yours won't...The Perrin TMIC should be as big as your APS ones.
Wow, thats how my car broke:eek4: , I mean the same damn stuff, brake down, everything shuts off,no power, but you got luck with a ****ing coupler, I think my ecu is dead ..................oh ans teh pic is for all the bloody finger fun we had
haha yea that clip is deadly. But i was thinkin that the hose got cut on the ic install and maybe just get weak and went today when i put the pedal to the medal. Anyways, I put the stocker back on just now so it will be easier for subaru to tinker with everything. Anyways, it runs fine untile i hit max boost which should be around 18.5 but it cant hold more than about 14 and then starts to shudder and make a flapping sorta noise. Would this still happen even if the vac line is sealed with duct tape(which i know is kinda funny )?
well the only new upgrades i had put in were the NGK iridiums that bikerboy put in for me(thanks again!). Then took it to DB and they tuned it.
hmm...wierd if u just did the Plugs, plus I know Matt is very careful install things. You bought the car used right?
yea it was used with 26,000 on it. The current upgrades i had on it when i had the tune done were tbe, intake, new topmount, and that ssqv. I just wanted to get the new plugs in for a smoother tune with a little better results as i did not know what kinda shape the old ones were in. Just though it'd be a good idea...
oh when u meant the install i thought u meant the stuff before the tune. I've installed everything on the car except the plugs.
Well, the line that has the tape on it almost looks like the line that goes to the wastegate. If it is, you are bleading off you boost there and the flapper door is probably slamming open and closed. Russ
the line that is taped is the one that is conected the that plastic peice with the white stuff on the intake pipe.
well subaru is backed up until next thursday. I wonder if i could get the hose and put it in myself. I'm pretty sure its sealed up with the tape but i bet when it gets hard boost the tape starts to fluctuate and makes that uneven flow that i'm feeling. could that be it?
Dude, tape does not a hose make. Just run down to Checker and find the right size tube. Should be easy as that. And stay out of the boost on your way!
the only thing is that its not just a normal tube, its attached to to that plasitc peice on the intake.
does anyone have the link to subarus OEM part diagram where i could just look the part up and pick it up in the parts department?
i think www.morries.com has a parts diagram somewhere on there site. if not just bring your car to the dealership and see if they can find the part you need.
got it all fixed up. Went up to morries and talked to greg in the service dept and just ended up goin to truvalue for some more vacuum hose.
alright well it boosts fine in gears 1-4 but when i get into the higher gears and am going pretty slow and floor it, it will take a while to boost(which is normal obviously) but when it does and gets to about 4k it starts to do the same thing, kinda starts to shudder/shake like there is a leak but that doesnt make sense because its fine when i put it under full boost in the lower gears. any ideas what is causing this?
its in both, 6ht the most. I dont notice it when i transition into 5th/6th when the revs are already moderatly high but if i'm at say about 2k cruisin on the highway and i nearly floor it, the lag is really slow, which is normal, but then when it starts to spool up it starts to flutter/shudder and make that sorta sound like i'm loosing boost. Its wierd because if it was a leak i would be experiencing it in the lower gears too, but those are fine, as far as i know. any idear's?
If I'm guessing right from what u say...Thats normal...Thats your turbine, when a turbo gets broken in, that is usually what u hear more turbo whinning which can sound like it is Fluttering. As long as you don't feel a hesitation during full boost, which can result in a inconsistent boost, aka. Boost spikes ( your car will feel like it is jabb'in foward) and will not run strong throughout the RPMs and that would be a tuning issue...IMO
alright, i guess i'm just a little paraniod about the whole thing just cuz what happened yesterday. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks
oh its all fixed. I got some vacuum hose at truvalue and got it all fixed. I was just afraid that somthing else might be wrong but i was just paranoid. Haha i would never rip my car when its held together with duct tape
haha well i guess when i said rip, i meant that i wouldt do wot runs through the gears with it like that. The only time i did put it under considerable boost was the one time just too see what happens. kinda stupid because obivously it wouldnt function properly with the hose like that but just wanted to see what was going wrong to help find out the problem. but yea, you got me on that one
