i have the x5 hid conversion kit. the wiring is plug and play except two wires that are a pos. and a neg. they say in the instructions that they go to the positive and negative terminals. does that mean the battery? or what?
ok thanks. so i just need to run the positive wires to the battery terminal and the negs to a ground? thanks for the help
i wouldn't wire them to the terminals. these replace your factory headlight bulbs, correct? i made my own HID kit a while back and i used connectors from the hardware store to slide over the positive and negative male connectors found inside your factory bulb harness. thus you can control when your new headlights turn on/off.
Some kits recommend running power directly to the battery to avoid electrical issues. The only time you'll run in to that issue is when you first turn the lights on as ballasts take a good amount of power to start up.
I'm guessing that the home runs to the battery are controlled by a relay, which is controlled by your stock harnesses. Plus the stock wiring really isn't anywhere near up to par for the job. It'll work, but you risk much more serious problems. But generally IMHO, if a product says to install it one way, most of the time you should install it that way.
but if he has to ask how to install it... it obviously doesn't tell him any way to install it... just throwin out my knowledge since i have dealt with it and had help from an autobody technician that knows his stuff...
They connect to the headlight assembly. There is a spot in there, on the metal bracket where you install the lamp, that has two wires going to it already, you connect it to those wires, red to red, black to black. IIRC.
Good luck man I might be able to help you out if you call me, if you have questions or whatever. PM me if you need my number, I'll be around all day.
Can I get some info on this kit? I know that HIDs with a standard reflector is a no no. Does this reshape the beam?
HID's with the 02-03 lamps isn't the greatest idea. I have them and I had to re-aim the lamps down. I still get brighted every now and then, but that's the way it goes when you don't have projected lamps.
thanks readymix and driftin. for all the help. thanks the install is complete and a success. i think they look pretty decent.
I may be a little stupid and blind...but I have the x5 kit, and I just opened my hood and looked around for the connections...and I can't figure out where those two wires go either! Readymix: you said they go into something...but, I don't understand which part or where they go. I don't want to just start pokin' around either. If anyone has a picture or more of a detailed description of where they go, it would be greatly appreciated And how do you aim the lights down? I'm a "headlight-noob"... Thanks, Justin K.
To adjust the headlamps down, there is what appears to be a captive bolt in the middle of the back side of the lamp, turning it one way raises the beam, the other way lowers it. As far as the wires are concerned, when you remove the back cap, there should be two wires that you can see in there. You will attach the wires from the X5 kit to the tabs that the wires in there go to. If you have bugeyes, call Brian....my description is for 04-05 headlamps. driftin240 has done them on the bugeyes.
yeah the power wires go into the stock plug. negative to negative then the power i think goes in the middle one.
