Hey everyone. Got another set of nice HID's in my car. They work way better then the previous ones, but still whenever i turn my fogs on the high beam light on the dash comes on and the fogs are way dimmer than they were before. I am thinking its because HID draw way more currant then regular bulbs. So my question is: is it possible to make fogs work completely separate from headlights. I heard some people have done something like that. Thanks, Taras
Check Nasioc's electrical forum. Search the forum. Bend a pin on the foglight relay, add some wire and a fuse and binga banga. There is pictures and even a schematic. Edit: link: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=570252&highlight=foglight+relay it looks like 2004 or newer. Edit again: easier on the bugeyes: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=888875&highlight=bugeye+foglight fogs and brights man this search stuff is awesome!!!
Thanks retreif! Sweetbugi, nope havent figured it out yet. If you can give me a hand with it it would be cool.
Yeah, pics would help. The problem is that when i turn my fogs on they turn on but are very dim and the highbeam blue light on the dash comes on kinda half way.
I have got an answer for that lol you need to soder in a resitor between the high and low beam wires i think it is like a 3.5 resitor i could be wrong. But if you put that bugger in it will fix all of your problems
I'll bet if you go to some of the other Subie sites and use the search function you might find some other clues for bugeyes and HIDs. I do plan on doing the foglight mod to mine this weekend. I did the bulb replacement replacing the low beams with Osram Night Breaker +90 Ultra High Output 55w H1 Bulbs, the high beams with the HIR 9011 bulbs and the fogs with Candlepower CPI Gold Selective Yellow H3 55w Bulbs. I'm very pleased with the results. It's not HIDs but the cost was ~$120 and required no rewiring.
HIDs/bugeyes Taras, what headlight housings are you using? If you're using the stock housing how often do you get brighted by fellow motorists? I've wanted to get HIDs for my bugeye but in the end decided against it because of the non cut off the stock bugeye headlights have when paired with HIDs. Any pics of cutoff?
ZOMG remember that at FS? The splash damn near went up the entire building wall. They were bright but thats about it.
They aren't good for HID's. I got brighted often. They provide great lighting for the driver, but everyone else pretty much hates you. I got another kit that was supposed to be Bi-Xenon, but it's getting returned. The bulbs had no cut-off what so ever, and the hi/low beam difference was totally absent. From everything i've read, people are happy with the aftermarket relay harness' and a good set of Halogen bulbs (Osram Silverstars, etc...).
