Which Subarus have hill holder? i know the older legacys, 93 imprezas, loyales, gls, and some of thenew outbacks have it do any others? in particular do any of the cars w/ hill holder have a hydralic clutch? so that it would be possible to pu the HH system into an impreza?
My 2004 Forester has it and I love it. Don't ask me if I know how it works though. I believe Subaru only has it in the Forester and Outback (maybe Baja) lineup, but don't quote me on it.
hill holder is mechanical mechanism that is enable whil eht clutch and brake are pushed in together. basically what it does is when teh brakes are held and the clutch is pushed it locks the driver front and pass rear tires. so you can take your foot off teh brake with out rolling, and get a good start on a hill.
The Hill-holder is only found on Subarus with a cable actuated clutch. There is an extra cable that goes from the clutch fork to a valve of some sort in the brake system. I know Subaru went back to a cable clutch on some of the late madel cars. I can't recall which ones though. Honestly, its not that great. You have to push the clutch all the way in for it so be effective. Even in Duluth, where everywhere you go is a hill, I never use it. I've gotten quicker without it, so I adjusted it to barely work, because it would engage when I was trying to back up.
stopped in at BP subaru. it is on the older early 90s subies, and they brought it back for the 04+ foresters. the foresters have a hydralic clutch i believe but the hill holder is still activated the same why. it is a independant calbe that runs from teh clutch pedal? to the assembly which in turn prevents rolling. granted you may not need to use it, but when i do my swap i am gonna install one just cuase its nice to have. only negative side affect is +2 pounds. i can just remove the back seat or something.
Eh.... This hill-holder thingy sounds like it would be a pain when heel-toeing. Can this feature be disabled?
