I step away for FIVE MINUTES and all of the sudden I'm stabbing and tearing apart the remains of dead hookers? You know, you can boil STD's out a femur if you throw it in at the beginning of a boil.
Hell yeah, I'd be down for hosting a brew session as well - as long as people wanted to drive all the way out to mah house. If you get it planned for a weekend day in September, Sundays look good. 11th or 18th!
I can host a 17th brew session if anyone is interested in swinging by. Probably start mid morning give or take. PM or post up if interested.
1 lb of Cascades labeled and bagged and in the freezer. Centennials are getting bagged tonight and Columbus, Zeus, and Chinook still need to be harvested. My shed smells amazing!
Was wondering why I was getting strange looks from the neighbors as I was weighing them in my garage.
Paul and I are interweb-famous! http://www.brewingtv.com/episodes/2011/9/8/brewing-tv-episode-44-dice-hopped-ipas.html
So when is the brew day? I would love to see how you guys brew, I just got into all grain earlier this year.
Which brew day?! I can host a MNSubaru brew day in late November sometime, but I'm swamped until then.
I can probably host a brew session/spoon signing the weekend of Oct 1st-2nd. I want to get a Brown Ale brewed up and in the fermenters for fall here. I'll get some more details up when I have a chance to make the day/time solid.
Oct 1st or 2nd would work for me. I had a fire in my house and have to be out of it for 2 months! During the best brew time of the year dammit.
I live by myself and I wasn't home so there where no injuries. One of the worst parts is I lost all of my home grown hops that I had sitting out ready to be bagged. I probably had over a pound this year too : \
I dried some in my custom hop dryer. It is a giant rubbermade tote with a hinged lid that has 3 wire shelves in it and a 4" hole cut in the lower side hooked up to a duct fan that draws air out of the bottom. There are a bunch of holes drilled in the top to allow the air in. I run this in my basement for about 24 hours with the dehumidifier going and they are dried nicely. (pictured are some throwaway hops from last year mailed to me from a buddy in yakima so I could test the dryer)
Hops, hops hops! I'm pulling down the rest of my plants this weekend. Tonight is everything except for the other, MASSIVE Cascade which Ryan and I will be hopefully pickin on Sunday or Monday night.
Nice! Them Cascades Eric? Can't wait to see how much ya get from the Fuggle. We need to make us a homegrown Stout this winter! Got a really good yield from the 1st year Zeus. And what my 1st year Chinook gave me.
Alright, last change. Or so I hope. First weekend in Oct just isn't gonna work unfortunately so the date has changed to Oct 8th. Come one come all, we'll brew some beer and sample whatever it is I might have on tap along with whatever you'd like to bring and brew up 10 gallons of something yet to be determined. Probably fire up the kettle midday give or take. Sorry bout the change in date Drocnoc, hope the 8th will work for you.
???? Have fun boys! Sorry I can't make it!!! It might be helpful to give people a timeline. Light the fire at noon. Crush the grain at 12:15 Dough in at 1:00 Transfer to boil kettle at 2:00 Sparge for 15 minutes (batch) Should be boiling by 2:45-ish Flame out at 3:45. Cool for a half-hour
Was taking one thing at a time but the timeline above looks just about dead on. So let me just... Light the fire at noon. Crush the grain at 12:15 Dough in at 12:45 Transfer to boil kettle at 2:00 Sparge for 15 minutes (batch) Should be boiling by 2:45-ish Flame out at 3:45. Cool for a half-hour Yeah, it'll go something like that. Shoot me a pm for directions to secret brew cave.
Nananananananananana brew cave! Here's what i'm planning on brewing on October 8th. Pretty much a Sierra Nevada Celebration clone. Unless I decide to change it 10.5 gallons OG-1.063 FG-1.015 ABV- 6.3% IBU- 57.4 SRM- 10.7 22 lb 2-row 2.5 lb 60L Caramel 2 oz Chinook @ 60 min 1 oz Chinook @ 20 min 2 oz Cascade @ 15 min 1 oz Centennial @ 15 min 2 oz Cascade @ 0 min 1 oz Centennial @ 0 min 1 oz Centennial/1 oz Cascade dry hop slit between the 2 carboys (all hops will be whole leaf home grown aside from 2 oz of Chinook) Whirfloc US-05-yeast
Unfortunately I have a prior engagement on the 8th, super bummer, I hope all goes well and you have a great time brewing.
Damnit! Seem to be getting the same response from a few others. Realized that I planned my session on the same day as the Zombie Pub Crawl. I'll probably keep this one on the 8th but i'll keep you informed on future brew days.
Blowout season or not, beer must be brewed! So far i've got one guy swinging by for the session maybe two. So apparently many agree with you and would rather blow than brew that day.
Anyone interested in a Pigs Eye Tap handle? Used but still has many o pour left in it. Has a stress crack at the base but still threads on tight and no splitting. $10 or trade ya for a 4 pack of Furious or 6 pack of Two Hearted.
Anyone else brew over the holiday weekend? Brewed a Pale Ale, nothing special. Just some Simcoe, Falconers Flight, and Sorachi Ace.
I made an attempt to brew, but it was derailed by my 10 month old's 105 degree fever. So, I only had time to whip up a starter for the smack pack I had already popped in prep, and rig up my new addition to my kit (PUMP!). I mounted it inside a toolbox, since my setup has to be torn down and hauled to the basement after each use (for the time being). More on this with pics to come as I finish up the wiring for it.
Well hope the little one is feeling better, a 105 temp is no fun. Congrats on the pump! Love having the pump myself, nothing better than standing back and letting it do the work instead of hefting hot ass kettles My pump in the pic above is tool box mounted. Bought mine that way, works slick but one day i'll get around to mounting it to my stand and creating a shield.
Yea he is fine, just an ear infection. He refused to sleep unless he was being held though so I spent 9 hours playing final fantasy 1 on my phone with him sleeping on me... Then I slept through my brew day
I brewed me a "super" Fall ESB+ on Saturday the 26th. The laptop that I have Beersmith2 on was at my sisters place getting fixed so I winged it with the grain bill, went in with 4 extra pounds of two-row and rested for about 2.5 hours to make sure I got total conversion (and because my kids needed dinner and to play, so I just let-er-rest and didn't loose more than a quarter-degree if anything). I'll post the recipe later:
