I am having some probs with my hood staying latched. I shut it and it is closed all the way and i cant pull it open but for some reason once i get up to highway speeds the hood will unlatch as if i were to pull on the release latch.(scary as Focking hell!!!) Has anyone had this problem before? Can i buy just the latch mechanism?

I was on the highway today doing like 75mph jus jammin away(metallica) and all of a sudden i hear a thunk! I was like WTF? I look at my hood is just about to flip onto my windshield. So i slammed on the breaks and pulled over. I thought OMG i checked my oil and didn't shut my hood all the way. So i made sure the b!tch was shut (all the way) and went on my merry way. Bout 10 miles down the road, all of a sudden o see my hood scoop jump (thunk) again. Pulled over and shut it again. This time I dented my hood trying to close it. :( WTF is goinz on? I dont want to have the thing flop onto my front window.

Any info would be much appreciated.

also soak it down with penetrant... I usually spray some on most cars I work on just as they dont release or latch smoothly enough half the time...

also make sure your cable inside the cabin is pushed back in all the way if it is sticking it will not latch properly either

^^ Cable in the cabin. That happened to mine the last couple times I opened the hood. You can bang on the hood all you want, it won't shut if the cable is not right inside the car. (for once, Nathan is right about something :p )

Yet another one going off topic. Yes, the latch is available seperately. If you take the latch out, make sure the cable is functioning properly and make sure it slides smoothly.

Out of curiosity, does that mean either the cable or the latch is going bad? In my car, it's not weather related.

Most of the cable problems I have seen, are weather related. Mine usually gets sticky when it's cold out.

Just soak in with like WD-40 or some other penetrating oil. Don't apply grease or any other stuff. It's un-needed, and will collect more dirt causing it to stick again.

Mine popped up on the 02 a few months ago. Scared the crap out of me too!

Recently it has gotten worse in the colder weather. Everytime I pull the hood latch in the cab now, I make sure it's all the way back in the proper position.

Also, when you close your hood, lift up and down on the edge of it to ensure that it's latched. There have been a couple of times were it seemed like it was latched, when it was in fact not latched and it pulled lose by hand.

    Pics of said dent?
