My buddy works at the one off rice street in little canada. haha it's Franchised. Corporate sucks they don't even check radiators anymore cause it's "too dangerous"
I was thinking of applying for a job there this summer, if you dont mind me asking how do u like it so far and around what is starting pay, u can message me if you dont want to post that kind of info thanx
you guys charge $10 for aN "import car" which is total BS, when my wife came home and told me about that, i was ready to drive there and beat azz.
agreed, so i called and raged at them, they gave me the excuse "its because on most imports the filters need to be disposed of differently, and the filters are harder to get to...BS! in fact i think it was the brooklyn park one, off 169 and 81
Yeah, because import cars pump not oil like american cars, but rather the curdled blood of babies mixed with that 'fat alternative' they used in chips that gives you the sharts. It has to be blessed by a man of the faith before disposal...and he charges a 10 dollar fee. Jesus, Erik, I figured that you of all people, someone that works in the biz, would know about the blessing of the import oil. Get with the program.
We offer a discount "Import Oil Disposal" to all club members. We have a full time Shaman on hand who's willing to work for Ramen and hot dogs, so we're able to save money on the back end.
I just covered my keyboard in coffee when I read that....thanks for giving our IT guy something to do today....:eek4: :eek3: :eek4:
I've gone there a few times...the chick "in training", put a palm sized dent in my hood! STUPIDNewbs.... Haven't heard of a $10 import fee though.:dunno:
I remember when I worked at Tires Plus the German stuff was the headache but a Subaru? Come on now. They are one of the least hassel cars to do oil changes on. Most of all Japanese cars are like that. Honda is right behind or underneath the intake manifold, and Toyota is in the front underneath the exhuast manifold. If it was a VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes then thats a different story. German filters alone from Napa or checker is already about $20!!!
I agree when i was at jiffylube german cars were the worst. I hated german skid plates the most. Plus the going rate on one of those is like 300 hundred bucks. Why because it has to be shipped here from germany. At least thats what the audi parts guy told me. So guess what we did, every german car that had a skid plate we charged him an extra 15 bucks. but for subarus to be charged that, ripoff! Unless the shaman is for real. :eek4:
Guys... my OEM oil filter for my Audi S4 whether it's from Audi Dealership or Checkers runs me about $5-6 with tax. It's not that bad. There are other parts to the car that'll kill ya in $$$ compare to a Subaru.
The one that I'm talking about is a incanister type fiter or a drop in whatever you want to call it. Mostly like on VW, Volvo that I remember.
Most places just catergorize all imports wheather it be european, australian, japanese, korean, or chinese even... as imports. They don't want to complicate things by charging each different import with its own price tag. If you don't have a domestic where all the parts are made here then theres going to be an extra charge. Its the way of the business no matter what type of business is out there they still have to make some kind of income otherwise they won't be out there.
wow i guess they just TRICKED u buddy! becuz we only charge $10 for EURO cars becuz of the Skid Plate but that is it...
Or perhaps they were trying to take your wife for a ride or their incompetency was showing when the service writer saw a badge that wasn't Dodge, GM or Ford and figured it must be German?
I'm safe, I pay for oil and filter and get aqualified ASE technician to change my oil, top off my fluids, point out that morons at Wal-Mart who once changed the oil tried to loosen the Trans Oil Filter and let it leak all over my transmission, yell at me for letting tires get bald, tell me he has adjusted the serpentine belts to take up the slack (they were new) and also turn my rotors.
most oil change places dont know the first thing about anything, i change my wife's oil now (like i guess i should have done all along)
Thats a tough call though... I don't like to change my own oil, I can do it very well but because I don't have a hoist I can't do an inspection of the car. That a qualified mechanic can do. Now, I know very well that lube express places are not staffed by mechanics but when I first arrived in this country my first job was at Wal-Mart changing oil and tires. All of the guys there were extremely knowledgeable about vehicles and had a high level experience. Perhaps thats because our manager owned his own shop for 25 years before being put out of business by the pollution laws ( I honestly have know idea about them either) he only hired people that could show a high level of competency. We never had vehicles coming back with issues whilst I was there, although we did have a wheel weight fall off. We also declined cars from service left, right and center that we thought could be an issue. Imports were not. I mean if a car came with it's lifters tapping away....we weren't touching that with a 100ft pole! If you came in and no oil registered on the dipstick then you are signing a disclaimer before pulling we pulled the plug. Two of our technicians were also mechanics that got sick of the job. One had also restored a beautiful 67 Corvette. Also, if we found any slight issues with the vehicle we always let the customer know. e.g. Front tires showing excessive inner wear, suggest alignment by a professional. No, we didn't do alignments. Now with that all being said I took my car to another Wal-Mart whilst we were away and hey presto, some twit tried to remove my trans oil filter and on top of that did not do it up tight enough. Consequently I pulled a 2200 lb camper with a leaking transmission. Thankfully all is good. If you can change your oil yourself, go for it. But if you could find a decent oil change place before hand why not let them? I know that if I'm crawling under my car on jack the last thing I going to notice is wear on the car in other areas. Sometimes you can find places that are simply awesome....most of the time you can't. I just don't think it's right to classify them all as bad. Which might I add, I know you didn't do.
