Seroiusly, 04 Sti 67k miles. On the highway the thing bounces, it almost feels unsafe. A friend said he had the same issue with his 04 Sti before he got coilovers. So I guess Im looking to upgrade the suspension. I know people will say "What do you want your car to ride like, What kind of driving are you going to do?" So, to answer those questions 1st: It's a daily so I need to be able to get the wife to ride in it. I also plan on doing some road racing and autoXing in the spring. And the next question will be: "How much do you want to spend" Well, as little as possible  but it depends on what Im going to get out of what I spend. Say $500 - $2000 I know that leaves open alot, and I know there are alot of threads on suspension, but ADHD makes it hard to find stuff...any help would be great.

It's not the springs -- it's the wasted struts that are causing the bouncing.

Go look at iwsti and see what their threads say. Many have changed out their suspension and still have a little head bob. I have Tein Flex coilovers with come with top mounts and a pretty built up suspension however I still have the "STi Bounce"

One guy wanted to get rid of it so bad he swapped for a WRX suspension. When my Teins go I'm going to have them rebuilt for more dampening to keep up with the springs.

You have a few more options with an '04 than an '05, I think WRX housings w/ Koni inserts are a popular, economical upgrade. Ohlins fixed-perch are pretty highly regarded, but also pushing the 2k budget. Plenty of coilovers to choose from but, regardless of how adjustable they are, would not be particularly wife-friendly imho. Definitely do some reading on iwsti.com.

^^^^^^I am thinking about selling mine since I will be living in chicago now for the next couple of years with minimal visits to MN or other states. I am gonna need something a little softer for my car I think cause Chicago roads are sh***y. I am trying to see what I can do to make them less bouncy. If my spring swap doesn't pan out I will shoot you a PM. If you want something sooner I saw them going for 1995.00 shipped on nasioc.

What spring rates do you have? The ones ive rode in were very nice, not bumpy at all.

Most suspension setups are going to "Bounce" it's a byproduct of the short wheelbase of these cars and a stiff suspension setup with poor high speed dampening.

Most low budget coil overs are going to have issues with this. KWs are known to have quite good HSD, but it still bounces over the annoying compression cracks in our ****ty roads.

if your stock suspension is bouncing now, i would just go replace the front and rear struts with a set of konis and some STI Tarmac springs. it's not a full blown coil over setup, but the konis are awesomes shocks, and will provide a good adjustable ride, and the tarmacs are a nicely stiff spring without being too harsh.

but if you really wanna stop the bounce as cheap as possible without really upgrading, just go get yourself a new set of rear struts as that's most likely the problem. STIs are notroious for blowing rear struts.

I honestly can't remember but after reading so many reviews I think they must be 12kg/10kg instead of the usual 8kg/6kg set up. They are fine for the roads around here so long as you avoid 100, and when 394 turns into 12 at 494. I want to ride in the other guys car who has the 8kg/6kg set up to see what his feels like. I was told that I could downgrade the springs to 10kg/8kg but no farther because of my valving so then I thought a rebuild could be done but alas I never sent in my warranty card so that would cost major cash. If someone offered me the right price I would sell them no problem. Even more tempting if they offer their STI suspension along with some cash.

if they were even tolerable on the street... they couldn't have been 12/10...
zac's were 12/10 and those suckers don't give at all. that's a REALLY stiff rate.

i've got 8/6s in mine, and their tolerable on most roads, but bouncy on the rough ones because of the poor highspeed dampening of the JICs... but their dampener rate is very nice and linear for transitions.

It really feels more like the front is bouncing, the back seems fine.

My Zeal's are 8/6. I've always wanted 12/10 for the track...

I would be down if they fit...what year is your car? I know that mine only fit the 02-03 wrx and 04 STi. I dont know about other year wrx's and I know no other STi's work.
