While looking on boxer4racing.com for a cat-back exhaust for my 97 LGT, I found out Stromung has discontinued their 97 LGT cat-back, so I did a little research and heard about some people interchanging Subie exhausts. I can get a relatively cheap set-up from ebay for a same year Impreza, would this require LARGE amounts of modification or just a little bending and moving some hangers? I have the ability to do minor tweaks to an exhaust but is it even worth the time? Thanks a bunch!
Mr. Attackspeed just put a exhaust from a GC Impreza onto a 98 LGT. (Impreza exhaust are pretty much the same from 93-07 in dimensions except diameter. The 02+ have 1 rotated flange and 1 odd hanger) The main issue is that the Legacy has a longer chassis and as such a longer exhaust. If you were to bolt up an Impreza exhaust it would come up several inches short. The axle back and cat back sections are both longer, so you cant just put an Impreza axle back on it either. You will need to lengthen the cat back section of the exhaust, possibly rotate a flange, and maybe re-bend some exhaust hangers. I would say that it is easily doable if you have the right tools and time. Otherwise some others could probably help you out, ie TSTRBoy2004.
i have a full exhaust back from my impreza if you want to "test" fit before you purchase anything. Its just lying in my shed, you/we could probably even just lift up your car and guestimate the fit. This way you would get an idea of how different the exhausts are. Or i could pop some measurements off of it just to give you a rough idea of how long it is.
124 1/2" from the muffler (not including the tip) to the center of the flange for the header. FYI i just used a tape measure to roughly get the length so could be more/less depending on how i pull my measurements. all the flanges are on the passenger side, with 2 on either side of the muffler, on the very end. (right before the tip) and i can get more detailed measurements just let me know. Since i brain-farted and didn't read the catback part, and i don't want to pull the exhaust down from the rafters again at this moment.
