Just got a STS from Cobb and the the Quality is just incredible, i feel bad putting a boot over that thing.
Some nice machined parts. I put one in my buddies 04 STI. I had a few small issues though. First the ID on the upper shaft was too small to accept the reverse lockout cable boss. Stock fitment seen here slid halfway in: http://s31.photobucket.com/albums/c389/Threshld1/?action=view¤t=P2040249.jpg Cobb shaft doesnt fit (reversed to show problem): http://s31.photobucket.com/albums/c389/Threshld1/?action=view¤t=P2040250.jpg Was easily fixed with a drill. Second issue was the clamp for the lower shaft was just barely over-bored. You had to really torque down that little M3 SHCS to get it to hold, otherwise the shaft would slide while shifting. Other then those issues it is a great product.
I have installed COBB's Duel SS in my WRX, and two STI's. I have not had any issues, it is a little difficult installing the reverse cable, you basically have to be a little creative. Other than that it was straight forward for me. I also installed the Turninconcepts bushing all around, this made a HUGE difference in feel. Besides the looks of this product the duel adjustability is a advantage for the performance driver. The shifting on my old STI was about 2" from top to bottom gears with some really nice tight and notchy feel, you won't have to second guess if you're going into the right gear at speed.
I put it in. Feels pretty good, but it seems like gimmick one felt better. And I have a problem with reverse lockout cable again. It was rubbing on the drive shaft and the plastic sleeve on it got ripped so now the metal sleeve is exposed and the shaft got scratched. So I am thinking what I should do? Should I paint the shaft with some anti rust solution and put waterproof tape on the cable or just leave it like it is and make sure the cable does not rub anymore?
What I did to keep the reverse cable from making contact with the drive shaft and avoid over stressing the cable from any kinks I ran the cable around the shaft just a few times to where you would have enough slack and than zip tieing it right before it goes straight up. You want to avoid just zip tieing it because it will cause a kink and will make it harder to put the car in reverse. Now as for preventing rust, you can pretty use what you can get a hold of, I like the wire heat shrink wrap stuff because it keeps things tight, and painting the shaft will almost be un-nessary since its bound to get rusty anyway. But thats just my opinion. I would consider installing some bushing while you're under there.
