I'm new here, but I've been looking around a little & haven't seen anything about informal circuit or road racing events, meets, etc.

    Is there such a thing?

I have a stock WRX wagon, so I'm not looking for anything hardcore. Maybe just a few guys that get together and take a few laps around a track for the fun of it (if anyone has access).

Or even just heading out to some fun suburban / country roads and intentionally breaking speed limits. Idunno. Drag racing is not my thing... just precision driving or something.

I heard of a Porsche club that makes trips up the Gunflint Trail (crazy curvy mountain-ish road in Northern MN) at triple digits. THAT would be fun. As long as you don't hit a moose.

Hey, welcome to MNSubaru! Yes, there are a few spirited driving events held annually. However, we don't condone discussions pertaining to illegal driving, such as you mentioned above.

Don't get me wrong, we have a ton of fun and would always welcome a new member to join us!! Please refer to the event sections as you will see postings in there regarding such events. I do believe there's an event going to be held month through another club. Again, please check out the event sections.

RallyCross!!!! Even your stock wagon would be fun! Check the event section for info on the next SCCA RallyX (Dog Days of Summer). August 3rd. If you have any questions, pm me or another experienced driver such as PrezaWagon or ScandiaWRX or (Mike) Wagner. They're a lot of fun, inexpensive, and a great way to experience the thrill of Rally in your daily driver car.

What's your experience like in this sort of stuff? We have a very diverse group here, some more than others. Some friends and I will be at DCTC this weekend for some 101 and R&D. This is a tarmac event and we are using the technical course as a warm up for the high speed event in the fall.

Rally-x, auto-x, and some ice racing gives you a good bit of sport use for your car year round.

For rally-x, the Land o Lakes (LoL) regional group hosts a slew of very local rally-x events. Minnesota Autocross Club (MAC) hosts some very local auto-x events. RichWRX hosts a few ice racing "events" up north during the winter months. If you want to travel a little further, there are a host of other events from other clubs that should work into your schedule and give you plenty of seat time.

As well, if you're into carting, several of the forum members hit up Pro Kart almost religiously.

For a stock car, I wouldn't suggest anything faster. Track use would be a little beyond the stock setup, and you would run into problems after a few laps.

There are some road events, more "cruises" than racing that we do too.

    Welcome on board.

If you want to really go fast the track is the only way to go, the street has far to many risks to mention.

Thanks for the tips, y'all! I'll definitely check some of these things out.

DCTC this weekend? That sounds intriguing. Enlighten me further... my experience is pretty much zilch. Looking to gain seat time as cheaply as possible.

Well NorthstarBMW.org is having their Teen Street Survival training this Saturaday for anyone between the age of 15-21 years old can participate. And on Sunday Advance Car Control Clinic, both are unfortunately sold out. But you're welcome to come hang out with us, if someone does not show you can sign up depending on your age for either event. Each student will have a assigned instructor and will have track and classroom time back to back.

Feel free to come to the event, volunteer and I'll see if I can get you a few laps at least to give you an idea what its like. This is not a racing school and they do not permit any racing training. But we have plenty fun, if you volunteer for the whole day your lunch is covered and you can catch rides with instructors in their cars. You do not have to own a BMW to participate or to be a member.

And here is a thread with this seasons events to the present.

Yes. 16-21 with a valid DL or permit.

DCTC is a fun little track. For sure a good starting point to learn more about your car and what both your limits may be.

A little track with elevation changes and skid pad that allows for fine tuning some of your technical skills. Thanks for chiming in Spidy.

I've done the Nordstern (Porsche)northshore trip and it is just a bunch of people out enjoying cars, scenery, good food and company. Usually some hiking and golf. The triple digit driving is saved for track and club racing events around the country.
