I just got home to find a nice letter from state farm earlier today. My insurance will now be going from $130 -> $290 on an 08 impreza 2.5 / month. I looked at progressive, and another local agency and progressive wants $2200ish with 1k deduc and the other one wants $2400. They had messed it up completely. I'm 19 with no tickets and only claim is a flipped 99" jeep (wasn't fully at fault for it). I went in and talked to them and switched my deduc / added renters insurance (lowers it 5% and can be beneficial to save some money) and got it down to $240.

I'm open to ideas, and suggestions if anyone knows someone. I just find it ridiculous that insurance is this much and thats why I went with an impreza over a wrx is due to not wanting to pay this much for insurance..

LMK if anyone has ideas on what to do..

Use your parents as the primary and your monthly payments will go down at least 50 percent. Just my 2 cents.

sucks I had it worse but I got my wrx when I was 20. I had to pay $350 a month for it with renters which saved me $10 over just having the car. I have a few tickets and claims though. It goes down quite a bit when you turn 21. Now I pay around 250 for 2 cars, my 06 wrx and my 06 sonata with renters but I have a kid now which is what made the difference haha so get to the baby making or else you will have to deal with it haha

Whats their reasoning for the hike? Thats quite a jump in price. When I was 18 and I had full coverage on my 88 IROCZ I payed like $350/month. I now pay $140/month on my 04 wrx.

Also insurance co. screw people all day long... Thats their job.

Can't use parents as it's a long story. The guy told me the second you have a kid that your insurance drops ~50% too... made me want to get on that. Main reason was for some reason I had discounts I shouldn't have had? But if I would have known this when I purchased the Impreza I wouldn't have done it..

Any companys to look into that might be cheaper?

    good insurance: usaa.com
as for the kid, i have one and my insurance isn't lower cuz of it but child support is way more than my car and insurance combined..

if u have any older friends or siblings, insure both cars on 1 account and split the difference... its called a muliti car discount, and claim its your fiance's car, maybe u can get the married discount like i did for 2 yrs...

what do P3n1s' and rims have in common? wrap them in rubber b4 use!:laugh::laugh:

I pay about $90/mo for full coverage with state farm. Being 25 or older makes a big difference.

Well, your main problem is that you are 19 and you have a impreza. Impreza's are now listed as a sports car for most insurance companies. You are screwed until you get older. Here is where being old is good. I went from my 02 wrx at $360 every 6 months to my brand new 09 FXT at $320 every 6 months. The insurance co said that the impreza is a sports car and the FXT is just a suv.:laugh: I will take that reasoning all day long.

    Bingo.

You are young and you flipped a Jeep. No matter whos fault the Jeep thing was, it will have an effect on your insurance. I was in an accident 7 years ago that wasn't my fault and my rates went up $30 per month for 3 years.

Shop around, find the best rates and buy there.

MY 93 IMPREZA cost me $24.00 for liability.... but my 06 wrx costs $197.00 for full coverage:rolleyes:

    I gunna sell the 06....

you gotta pay to play, if you want a newer car and your 19, you are going to have to fork it out, with insurence SOMETIMES you get what you pay for, and the cheapest route may sound good to an indestructible 19 year old, but they may not pan out when it comes to their end of the bargin. when comparing quotes you can't look only at the monthly cost, you need to see what you are getting for your money, in some cases you may not be getting much.

But you gotta do what you gotta do, wanna buy an 06 wrx?:laugh::laugh:

If your car was made within the last two years you get a discount.
IE. full coverage on my 09' is cheaper than full on an 06'

Age is a huge factor, and you will pay until you are 25+ (when you get there it is nice)

You are a dude! guys pay more than girls

You are single and without kids, no discount!

You rolled a car, that is a huge risk vs the millions of people that have yet to roll their car.

I will say this, I check the company my parents had vs. the company that covers my house and the discounts made about $100 difference per month. However, I am 27, married and have a clean record (everything is older than 3 years).

Good luck, looks like you need to bite the bullet!

    lolz......

    I'm 29..... and I have 1 speeding ticket... EVER:eek:! and I still pay $197.00 a month :)biggrin:$200.00 deductable:biggrin:)

also, getting a car and swapping a turbo into it sounds like a great idea, but if you crash it up, you get a wopping almost nothing in return, you pay your deductable and then you get what? maybe a few thousend bucks? Just try explaining to the Insurer that you have reciepts for the swap, and the labor, the brake calipers and your gauges, they will laugh at you, and remind of of the blue book value of your car and that you insured a STOCK veihicle.

You get what you pay for.

But if you are like me, and with the case of my 93l impreza, I don't care is the thing get totaled out, it is a beater and is worthless. If my 2006 wrx got totaled out, i'd cry and then my insurence pay out would be enough to cover the cost of the car, and then I'd smile after I get out of physical therapy.

Try talking to triple A (AAA) that is who I have for insurance and I pay $116/month for full coverage $500 decutable on my 06 STI, I am 23. When I was looking for insurance I found that a WRX was more to insure than a STI. If you need I have a insurance broker that I use and he is really good, let me know if you would like his number.

where you live, age, driving record, all that makes a difference, my insurance went up 30 a month just from moving from winnetka and med. lake rd in golden valley to rockford rd. and plymouth blvd in plymouth, i asked why and they told me "their system shows plymouth as being more rural and has a higher risk of hitting deer of cows".. yeah... not many deer or cows by cubfoods in plymouth...

Talked to them more... and looks like I can't get lower than $240 on statefarm. On the brightside, it'll go down a good amount as soon as first semester is over and grades pop out.

It raised due to the fact of them taking away the following which should have gone when I flipped the jeep:

    - Steer clear discount
    - Multi vehicle discount
    - Good student discount
    - Good driver discount

I had full coverage on an 06' Ridgeline RTL with 250 deduc and it ran me only $110.. The jeep only added a 10% surcharge, however that made me lose the discounts since I was in a crash. The problem is, is they just randomly took away the discounts all at once when they should have been at different times - which really screwed me.

Running upto talk to AAA now and we'll see =]

It cost me more ($190/mo) to add my new car to my existing policy with the Accord than to open up a new policy for the new car and apply the Accord to it ($130/mo). These quotes are with Progressive. They didn't provide an exact reason - just stated that it could be due to the Accord policy being renewed when the insurance risk was high for all Accord insureds.

I tried AAA online, the form messed up. A guy gave me a call today to discuss it though which was nice. I can get down to around $210 a month with AAA roadside + renters which isn't bad. Still, + $80/mo is pretty bad of a hike =/

OP. Insurance typically doesn't jump so dramatically without good reason. A small increase may come with the times, but it typically goes down as the car ages. Major jumps come from major changes, either on OP's end or the insurance company's end, some event or some error.

I pay about $60 a month for full coverage $500 deduct, 300/100 coverage on my 02 Forester. But that's Progressive, +25 years of age, and zero tickets, group coverage(really should do, parent/brother/sister).

One thing State Farm probably haven't told you (I hate those guys btw, thinking it's funny that they would try and get me to pay $690 a month! for a 2001 Impreza RS when I was 22 >.> with only 1 speeding ticket...) ANyways, 21st Century Insurance used to be with AIG, well, now they ditched AIG (for obvious reasons) and merged with state farm so State farm has to take all of their claims and re-do the "national rates" and do their odd math which sorta raised everyone up. It could be a factor, but it's another piece of Info. Progressive was really helpful in my case so I'm kinda surprised they charge that much, but I'm sure the hike was all on the jeep flip which sux coz they slap that to you regardless of who's fault it is.
