So I removed the intake silencer/snorkus on my '95 Legacy (non-turbo). Now the air is coming straight in through the hole in the side of the plastic filter box. This hole is of course facing the hole in the fender(although it's not completely flush). Should I be concerned about water or other crap from the road getting in there? It definitely seems a lot more vulnerable now.

I have been driving mine with out the snorkus for a couple years now with no problems. just keep an eye on your filter because it will get dirty faster without it there.

I believe there is a plug you can buy to plug it...

Yeah, from the MY00-01 Impreza RS's, they have a black plate you can install in there. You might want to check the fitment for a Legacy.

I hit a big puddle in my rs last week and the car quit running, I had to pull the filter and wait a hour before it dried up.

I cut the bottom half of the snorkus box off and install it back. Most waters goes down and air goes up into the filter. I've been driving mine for 1/2 a year now and its fine. Just leave your mud guards on.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll probably keep an extra filter in my car.

I have a had history with water (hydrolocked my Jeep last fall), so I'll resist the temptation! I'll check out the b series mafia as well.

well then if youre worried about that which if that happened to me i would be too. just take off your airbox get a maf adapter at autozone for 2 dollars and get a mushroom or a cone filter and your car will sound and run better. thats what i did.

I was thinking about doing something like that actually. Just adapt some generic cold air intake type thing to work.
