Hey everyone. I heard about you from one of my brother's buddies. I don't know what his name is on here though. I live in Minot, ND. I am currently a senior at Magic City Campus. I'm not your typical high schooler though. I dont think my car is the fastest thing ever and I dont street race like everyone with a Honda. My brother bought a 2004 WRX when he got back from Iraq and ever since I drove that I knew I need a Subaru. I found my 1999 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport last June. The people wanted $5500 but I talked them down to $4300. Since that I have done a lot of mods to it, including a paintjob and a new front end. The past few weeks I have gotten into messing around on the gravel back roads behind my house (I live in the country). I am looking into getting a skid plate and a rear diff protector for my next mods. I will be doing Auto X this summer but I want to try to setup up some Rally X events but I dont know if we will have a big enough demand in ND. Sorry for how long this is but I have nothing else to do. Here is a link to my album. http://mnsubaru.com/forums/vbgarage.php?do=view&id=3445
Thanks everyone. Just to let people know my car is a GF4, most people get it confused with a GC4-GC6 (coupe) Just added 2 new pictures of when the car use to be 2 tone
GC - sedan 93-01 GM - Coupe GF - wagon 93-01 GD - 02-07 sedan GG - 02-07 wagon number after it is engine codes, which I don't know w/out looking it up
2=1.8 L 4=2.2 L 6=2.5L 8=2.0 L TURBO ( JDM WRX) I believe GC is coupe and GM is sedan. WRX's were began in 1993 and they were only 2 door. Pre-2002 WRX's are known as GC8's
Okay, 2 people have said I was wrong so I will admit that I am probably mistaken then haha. I am thinking about buying a motor this summer and build it over the winter and then turbo it next spring.
GC was the impreza (non wagon) code in japan... # of doors didn't matter. Here in the US, GM was added to designate the coupe. Source Link
^^^ Thanks for clearing that up thanks for the compliments, I hated wagons until Subaru came along now I love them, and I love white cars.
I love that website. That is the one that made me want to get Rally X in ND and make me mess around on back roads more haha Thanks, I have heard a lot about your car but I have never seen it maybe you will be in Minot again and I can check it out.
nice car man i used to live in ND back in the day....i didnt read all the posts cuz im lazy is it turbod?
No, its a 2.2 L N/A motor. I am actually planning on buying another 2.2 motor this sumer to build it up and hopefully turbo it next spring or this winter, whatever I can afford money wise. I have been reading on forums and supposibly the 2.2l is better to boost than a 2.5l because the 2.2 has a semi closed block.
the ej22t is more closed than a ej25, but a non turbo 2.2 isnt much better than a 2.5 rs25.com is a goldmine for your car.
Yeah I am a member there. The ej22t is a complety closed deck with forged internals, I have read all about it but I guess its pretty unreliable. I have talked to major tuning companies about the swap and they have all said to stay away from that motor. I am just going by what the forums have said and the 2.2 takes boost better than a 2.5. I have talked to people that have boosted the exact same car as mine.
ej22ts will work wonders if they are built and tuned and maintained properly.Just like most everything. It would be alot easier to just put in a wrx drivetrain. Ive been down your road quite a bit, and in the end the ej20 is the best option.
I dont want to spend $3500+ on the just the drivetrain plus swap it and pay $1000 for ECS to splice the wiring harness because I am not f'in with that. Thats why I want to just buy the same motor in my car, do a mild build and turbo it. No wiring or mess.
but after a few weeks goes by you will get bored with it and you will be limited to 10psi and 250hp.. whatever floats your boat.
Honestly, that would be fine with me. I am actually fine with the power of my car right now. I am the kind of person that wants my car to handle insanely well instead of having a lot of power. I don't street race, I won't drag race, and we don't have a road course, so a lot of HP is pointless for me. I just want the extra power for when I feel like messing around a bit.
I don't mean to sound stubborn or anything and I appreciate the input but I have been looking into this since last June and turboing my motor just seems like the best route for me at this point instead of a whole drivetrain swap.
We dont have rallyx in ND either. I am going to try to get it setup but I dont know if I will have the support to get it going ND is lame when it comes to cars
Here's the thing. I am going to college this fall so with college bill, car bill, phone bill, and gas I won't have a whole lot of extra money. My 2.2 has seemed like a good boost canidate and after I graduate in 4 years and get my career going I can do a drivetrain swap if I really feel it is necessary. My car with 250hp would already take a WRX since its about 500 lbs lighter if I remember right and has some more power.
Agreed. Only nice thing I can say, vs MN, is they don't have silly tint laws. 50% tint, to me, looks like an untinted window... :hsugh:
You have no idea what you are talking about, sorry. First of all, the 22T has forged rods like any other subaru, and thermaflow cast pistons. Better than normal cast pistons, but not as tough as forged. The 22T shortblock can support between 350-400chp depending on tuning. Cripes, Innovative Tuning was rocking a 35R on a 22T longblock and it didn't pop. They spun a rod bearing from revving it to 9k though. I can see how it would be unreliable for some since many like to toss in a junkyaed 22T thats been sitting for an unknown amount of years. Ask Max about that one. Anything can happen to a motor that sits for years. I have a fairly well stressed 22T and so do others. I don't know who you talked to, but it sure as hell doesn't sound like they know wtf they are talking about. n00b
Thank you Josh. One more thing. If someone wants to rev over 7k with a 22T, they should get the 11mm or 12mm(if you can find one) oil pump. The oil squirters take up some good volume from the pump.
welcome, any questions on boosting the n/a 2.2 we can talk, ive been boosting my high mileage one almost 2 years now, no issues other then poor front 02 sensor placement  oh and the 2.2T is bulletproof when modded CORRECTLY,
