Flash memory isn't the same as a hard disk. The largest flash memory device they have currently is the 8gb nano. If they put a hard disk into it like the 80gb video has the device would be quite a bit thicker and accessing data isn't nearly as fast.
Yes cingular will have the exculsive on this piece and I will have one. and yes like stevo said its flash memory and the thing is less then 11mm thick. so VERy thin for a smart phone, and does about 2 times as much as a normal smart phone. i am very excited to get these in, unfortunitly we wont have them till june im sure.
yes you are a phone whore i cant exchange your phone anymore trick. btw did you call that number i gave you yet?
how much is it...i guess i will have to get a job at your work josh just so i can get one for free...
499.99 for the 4gb version w/2 year contract and 599.99 for the 8gb w/ 2yr, and if i had to take a guess buying it out of contract or retail price would be about $200 more
lol @ $500 cell phone. I hope it comes with legendary apple reliability (buy a new one every year!) sorry, but no. I used to have a blackberry and it made me discover that ther eis nothing I need less than the ability to browse the web on a tiny screen with a crappy keyboard.
not just a cell phone, i would lol if it were just for making and recieving phone calls. Ipod (video, music, photo), 2mp camera with video record functions. bluetooth, WiFi, safari web browser, e mail, Phone, You get far more then just a phone for you $500 Here is a link to a nice write up as well as press release photographs http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/09/the-apple-iphone/
Personally I think the iPods are crap... Horrible failure rates for such an uncomplicated device, combined with iTunes which is crap. Add that with an email program that you can use pop or possibly imap, but no RPC connections. Screen keyboard which is about as good as the early Siemens products (yes more intuitive, but still have you tried typing on one? It sux). Just being release, and it is almost as worthless as a Blackberry in the corporate world these days.

<---- Love my Blackberry! Does everything I need it too... Now I just want the Pearl so I can take pics while I'm at it! Just like all wireless technology, the iPhone will launch at a bit higher price initially, then it will drop to something more reasonable within about 4 to 6 months! Very cool concept though and it was only a matter of time before something like this launched that will be more intuitive for both music lovers and phone lovers!
Ever had to support blackberry servers and hundreds of phones in multiple states? Blackberry Support, figure it out and lets us know what you did... Blackberry phone's and intuitive are far from being used in the same sentence. Blackberry licensing, must have learned from Oracle and Sun... Interface Issues with Domino and Groupwise Give me any Mobile 5 device and Exchange 2003 sp2 or 2007. Heck I will even take a Treo 650 with versamail. The pearl is a step in the right direction but poor reception anywhere off of the beaten path kept us from deploying more than 5, with all 5 coming back.
never had an issue with reception with my pearl infact it got better reception at riches cabin in Orr better then my 8700c.
LOL. You try making a 80GB hard drive the size of a matchbox. My Gen 2 iPod has got to be 5 years old by now and still works fine. The battery still lasts like two hours. The iTunes store is stupid, iTunes itself is great for organizing a huge music collection.
The concern is that considering the market they are targeting; they are taking a huge risk with a proprietary touch screen that hasn't been wrung out in production. Abusive Teens/20somethings+questionable touch screen = Major risk for bad publicity (any remember the easy to scratch screen fiasco?) Reading many of the (IC Design, Digital Audio, Digital Video, Elec Eng) industry mags, I see that they are taking a lot of risks with this...If it works as the public expects, they will have a huge hit, even at the ungodly price. Anyway, I have not desire for one, nor am I the intended target....
the pearl is the 8100????? I know you meant the 8700c, just giving you RiverDaler's a hard time. BTW, the name issue has been resolved and apple and cisco are now friends.
