Crank from ej25 smooth knicks from piston chunks. All bearings were still good and no knicks/ scratches on bearing surfaces, wondering if it is balanceable/ reusable. Have some people looking for this and I don't want to sell a paperweight.
While I have no experience balancing cranks, I would guess that it could be repaired and balanced as long as the bearing thrusts are still where they should be. Of course, a repair would be at the sacrifice of durability/strength. I base this off seeing more material being removed from knife-edging. I'd also guess that it would cost more to repair that crank than buy a new one. Unless someone here knows for sure, you're best bet is to take it to a engine shop for a professional opinion. ~Dan
I can't see what damage your talking about in the pictures but the guys at D&G motors should be able to help you out. http://www.dgmotors.biz/ Otherwise new cranks aren't too bad from the dealer if you get yourself an MNSOC card.
I think he is talking about the silver color on the edge of the crank. As long as it's not bent from the impact or gouged I would say it's good. you could take it to a machine shop to have them check it for straightness.
From what I have seen, the rough edges on the counter weights is normal. They don't smooth that out during the manufacturing process for some reason. Make sure the journals are super smooth. If not, they need to be polished and you need new bearings.
I'm up in Moorhead so not really worth that, I'm selling it only if it is okay to use for like $50 plus shipping. Yes the markings on the counter weights, not bent, spun smooth once I took the pistons out and torqued back in. Yup, journals are super smooth.
