so i got my wrx in september and am now in need of an oil change. what in all of your opinions is a good oil to put in it? i think the guy i bought it from ran rotella 5w 30 its a pretty stockish 04 wrx 2.0 couple of extras nothing big. also is this a pretty easy jack it up and do it job? havent delved to deep into it yet (got too cold too fast) changed plugs coil packs and little things only. thanks guys
If you really love your car I would do AMSOIL. WRX1, Myself and a few other people are dealers. We can get you the oil cheaper. I personally use the purolator pureone filters There is a sticky for an oil thread you should check it out
But running water makes it run cooler and then more HP. One of these days I need to teach you a thing or two about cars Nuke.
after reading the sticky on oil it came down to amsoil vs. rotalla i concluded. im thinking rotella its what its running now. any specific weight? we are approaching spring. does that make a difference?
I like 5w 40 but it may be a little thick in the winter on the cold days. I like the rotella because it really helps clean the built up oil outa the motor. Just ask turboturtle he just about **** himself when we did my valve cover gaskets at how clean the covers were. Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk
FYI the Rotella 5w-40 is now called T6. It's what I use in most of my vehicles. I'mnot as anti-mobile 1 as many people, but when the Shell is better and cheaper why bother? Also, do not forget to get a quality oil filter and change it at 3K miles even if you are doing an extended oil service. Good oil means very little if you are not filtering the contaminants well.
Following the manufacturer's oil change interval with their specified oil weight and service classification, and frequent checking of the oil level between oil changes is way more important than what specific brand of oil you choose to use. Hard to go wrong with an OEM filter since it is built to the manufacturer's specifications whereas aftermarket filters sometimes fit more than one make of engine, thus most likely are a compromise of some sort.
mobile 1, then my turbo blew, now cheap oil for 150 miles, then mobile 1... i agree checking oil level and proper intervals of change is a bigger factor than brand. good luck! jack the car up and get started, if you changed the plugs you can change the oil no problem.
For part store filters I usually get a Wix. OEM is probably better if you're willing to stock up a the dealer. Just do not use a Fram, whatever you do.
Only place I can find Wix is at O'Reilly's. They cost more than OEM. Before I bought the Outback I used Fram filters for 25 years on a variety of vehicles. Never had an issue. I have had a Purolator leave the gasket behind on the engine...once.

Just remember there are no car manufacturers that recommend longer oil change intervals when using synthetics...follow the recommended OCI.
and again, the worst thing you can do to your motor is constantly change brands of oils. Every oil leaves deposits and every oil has a detergent package, sometimes these do not mix well with constant swapping. Pick a oil and stick with it. If you are dead set on changing oil every 3-5k, don't even waste your money on Amsoil or any of the other good synths. You will never get your money back out of it. The good synths are meant for extended drain intervals. Russ
I have used Castrol Syntec since the day one with Napa Gold filter (30k now). I might stock up on OEM filters for next oil changes.
I'll give you $10 for the Mobil 1. I'm not afraid to use it in either car. If I have to use a Fram, I might have to insist on putting that in the Outback though.
