So I have a few canadians friends (I know :eek3:), and they had told me about some ketchup flavored potato chips. I thought it was kind of gross. They seem to like it a lot. So today I go to Cubs and I see that Old Dutch has it (I don't know how long it has been out, maybe a while, I'm not a chip person, so I would not know). Anyways, I bought a bag and gave it a try. Not bad at all .

For those who has tried it, thoughts?

these are fantastic, but eating regular potato chips with ketchup is much more satisfying.

I like to dip my plain potato chips in ketchup too. If you think about they're fried, or baked potatoes with oil& salt. They're similar to fries.

If you think Ketchup flavored chips are weird, take a trip to Europe and walk through their chip aisle!

Oh, and get your Canadian friends to track down some fries with gravy...yummmmmmmmm

After having lived in Scotland for a year and visiting the UK numerous times since I think I've finally figured out most of the food differences. There are the usual ones like chips, sauce, pies, and puddings. It never gets old telling people in England that one of my favourite breakfasts is biscuits and gravy. The look they give is hysterical

They remind me of the salt & vinegar chips, but much milder, with a hint of ketchup.
    But everybody's taste is different.

Tomato is the base of one of the mother sauces too...

And in England I seem to recall them referring to ketchup as "red sauce". Also not really my thing.

I pounded tim tams like they were going out of style when I was down under!!! Damn they're tasty! I also became addicted to "twisties." Mmmm, I should have my brother ship me some tim tams and twisties. Didn't dig on the vegemite though. Not my style.

I think I had my first ketchup flavored potato chips about fifteen years ago at an icerace in Thunder Bay. They also had dill (known as dill pickle flavor in some spots now in the U.S.) and potatoes and gravy flavor (which were awesome, but they quit making them). Glad to see the U.S. got smart and decided to start making these here after smuggling hordes of bags across the border. A lady at a shop in T. Bay told me that it was pretty common for U.S. citizens to clear out their shelves and bring stuff back into MN. I had mustard flavored potato chips at the Maine Forest Rally one year... YUM!

Now if we can just get a place that serves good ol' fashioned Canadian poutein in MN. French fries + gravy + loads of melted cheese = poutein. More common in eastern provinces, sold by street vendors like hot dogs. The perogies that they sell are smothered in butter, cheese, and bacon. Apparently, Canadians don't have cholesterol issues. :)

Or better yet butter tarts!!!!!! Now THAT's a treat!

On the smoking stuff... my wife smokes and got some Player's Lights because they didn't sell US cigarettes there. Light cigarettes in Canada aren't "light" so she says. Mountain Dew in Canada has no caffeine per a store clerk we talked to! Definite minuses about Canada.

I don't make it to the grocery store very often.

I sampled a couple different beers in AU and NZ, but I can't remember the names. :-/ All I know is that VB is crap.
