What do you guys think of this tire...I'm 90% sure I'm buying these tires this week...Unless your suggestion sways me not too...The generals are rated high, but I can pay a bit more and get a good summer performance tire rather than all season, and the Nexen brand hasn't been proven...

Again, I just need a summer tire, no winters...Any other recommendation? I'm gonna pass on the falkens, because I can get a better deal on kuhmos and they are both about the same rating, kuhmo a bit higher though on traction.

I'd get the Hankook Z212 or the Kumho MX.

Just curious...why the hell are the generals rated so dam high! Even though the reviews are from customers rating...The other tire sites also rated them high on the list...General Exclaim UHP

Arrrhhhh...you know what...just for my curiousity...out of that 90%, 10% wants me to try the generals out for the same price...Just because the rating is so high...As far as the Kuhmos the Ecsta SPT version rated high on wet traction 8 of 10...decisions decisions

Not sure what you mean by rated?

But the all seasons are only graded against other all seasons. Most summer tires(good ones) will have just as good wet traction if not better than all seasons. Excluding Azeni 615s.

So, just because a all season has high grades. Doesn't mean they're graded on the same system an all summer tire is.

The kumho isnt a terrible rain tire, its just that the azenis sports or ectsta mx's are going to be worse in the rai than your average tire because they're so biased towards dry grip.

I take the advice the falken sales manager told me: just slow down 15% in the rain and you'll never have any problems. I've done that and it's worked just fine.

that is up until I got caught in a heavy downpour with bald azenis 215s. It was basically hydoplaning so bad i coiuld barely go 30... but this was a monsoon level rainstorm where nobody else was going faster than that either.

I'd go for the hankook z212's for a daily driver. Theyre good, the only problems are not the ultimate dry grip of the azenis or ectsta mx, but better treadwear. They are really noisy and squeal badly when pushed, but other than that there aren't too many drawbacks it's a pretty good sports street tire.

I don't think Ray will be pushing any tire too bad. Hardly drives his damn car the way it is! lol

My z212's are quite to me, atleast on blacktop. Some of the other highway surfaces can get pretty loud. They never squeel. But then again I never push them real hard on the road. Plus, they were my first real performance tire I have ever owned... But I love them. Rain performance is awesome.

From my readings, i'd opt for the Kooks over the Kuhmo MX for our cars.
the Kuhmo MX may out grip the Kooks on a civic, but when your dealing with vehicles as heavy as ours, the soft sidewall of the MX really starts to dull the turn in and max tire grip.

I'm a bit of a tire nut, and I'm currently running the Falken RT-615s. and i already know that i'll be switching to the Hankook RS2 z212s next spring because they've released a size that is considerably more favorable to my car (245/40-17 instead of 245/45-17)

The general's are rated so high, because of two reasons:
    1. tire rack's ratings are mostly user entered. thus the cheapest performance tire often becomes the top rated, as people who have never driven on a performance tire will purchase them not knowing the difference, feel the extreme difference between even a low end performance tire and their crappy stock all-seasons. then, go and rate them a 10 and throw off the whole system.

    2. Other sites give them high rating because General rates them as a "Ultra high performance" tire, and companies have to list them as such. it's not actually an opinion, as much as it's a classing.

I've got a set of the Hankook R-S2 Z212's on the lesbo-grocer-getter-mobile, and I love them. Personally I don't think they're that loud at all. They do squeal when pushed hard, but for daily driving they're quieter than the stock "Geo-squealers" that came with the car.

    so +1 for the Kooks

I didn't mean they squeal driving to the grocery store, but listen to a car with them autocross and you'll realize they make some really, really loud squeals.

Generals tires sucks don't buy them. Don't believe the rating on tirerack. I'm been using Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 for all of my cars the I had. The Dry & Wet traction are great never had any problem with the 712's. I''m using Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 P225/45r18 on my rex. And if you have the money get BFGoodrich,Yokohma,Toyo, etc.

Thanks, for all your help guys...I guess Generals are out...Dizzy, your right I hardly drive my car...haha Plus I won't be pushing it to far to it's limit...Plus I don't drive my car in rain often...Maybe once-twice a year...The Kuhmo SPT seems to be the choice I'll be making over the Kook's...I was always curious about the SPT ones because of the dry traction rating and low noise and comfort reviews...

    ???

Why the kumho SPT? The only recommendation you've had for them so far is off of random website people... who are definitely not to be trusted to review tires as 99% of them have no clue what theyre talking about and haven't ever driven on performance tires before. I can't reiterate enough how absolutely retarded online tire reviews are. Shane is right, most people think anything is a god tire compared to theire substandard corded out oem tires.

It jsut doesnt make sense, for the list of things you said (low amoiunts of driving, nice fast car, not in rain) say to me that the kooks/azenis/ectsta mx would be clearer choices.

I just hate to see people put mediocre tires on nice cars.

alright...has anyone tried the SPT's? The one reason y I'm deciding on them is the ride comfort level. I noticed that everyone said the MX is a bit noisy. Isn't the SPT a softer ride and quieter? As I said, I'm not going to push it to its limit. Plus in the land of pot holes are the MX's soft enough so that I do not take the impact? If you all can tell me the MX will ride just as good as the SPTs, considering I haven't riden on either one, but my research and taking to some so called tire guys (discount tires, tiresplus, firestone, dealerships) 3 out of 4 said the SPT would be the better ride comfort than the MX...But the MX has a slight better handling than the SPT. Both are the same in rain and as far as treadwear the SPT has a slight advantage.

So the verdict...Has anyone driven or riden on SPTs?

LMFAO! you've got ECSTA Supras and your saying the Generals suck?
I bet you've never had a performance tire other than the 712 turds.

Next time, get yourself a set of falkens and enjoy actual grip.

Sogonerg sent me a PM, so i'll sum up what i said in it.

if you drive your car like grandma, and you never track or drive spiritedly, the SPTs are just fine. if you wanna drive a little harder, try out the Proxies 4.

if you wanna feel what your car can REALLY do on street tires, get the Falken/Kooks/Kumoh MX/Advans. There's a reason the top Street Tire autocrossers choose these tires: Their the best. fuzion could put out a million dollar contingency on someone winning nationals with their tires and no one would even bother trying. why? because they just don't make the cut.

You want advice on the best handling street tire? look to the nationals results in any of the street tire class. you'll see their all using one of the 4 listed above.

hah, thats funny, in PM's i also mentioned the proxes 4 as the best "all around" street tire.

they are a bit spendy, but they last a long time and are really nt particularly bad at anything, just not up to the level of the advan/azenis/kook/mx, but you'll keep them three times as long. My next set of matrix tires is definitely going to be proxes 4's (if i'm rich biotch) or ectsta 712s (if i remain broke).

I had used Falken azenis,Yokohama advan, and BFGoodrich g-force and they are great tires but the price isn't, why paid $160 to $250 for one tire for 18's when you can paid $85 a tire that come close to the other name brands.

Yeah if you have money, buy those expensive brands.
