Anyone have tips about good spots to watch the action at the upcoming rally. Looks like the championship is coming down to the last event and i set up a trip up there to catch the action and would appreciate any hints/tips
    Thanks

The best place to watch is as a volunteer at a marshall point. http://www.lsprorally.com/

Many times your own private location. No hiking down a mile long row of spectator cars or trying to see over hordes of other spectators. You also get worker trinkets that say LSPR on them.

    :+1:

Rallys need volunteers. Most jobs are as simple ast sitting at a spot to let anyone who happens along that there's a race going on and they can't get through. Working starts and finishes are a little more complex (but still fundamentally simple) and you get to interact with the competitors.

Being part of an event is a lot more satisfying than watching an event.

The Delaware is a good stage to watch. It's a 90 into a ~180 uphill/downhill that's run twice. I always get some excellent pictures at that stage.

Here are some pics I took from delaware last year.

I had a bad spot, but made the best of it.

I'll be up there, most likely working.

+1 for Delaware Delta spectator point. Lots of action. The road along Lake Superior West out of Copper Harbor is an amazing drive. Watch your speed though.

I'll be heading up Thursday a.m. from Brainerd. We are hoping to get there in time to help banner the Friday stages. We will also be volunteering both days.

Yeah M26 is an awesome drive. And you don't have to watch your speed because of police, you need to watch your speed because there are some very dangerous blind curves over the many small hills along the lake. There is one in particular that you can launch over and completely cut the corner of the road. If there is any oncoming traffic you're dead or seriously hurt.

Don't miss going all the way up to Copper Harbor if you're up there. There's a service in town before/after the Brockway runs (if they're doing them this year) but otherwise the loop up US41 to Copper Harbor and the return on M26 is a very scenic drive, especially that time of year. It's also interesting to note that US41 ends up near Copper Harbor but begins all the way down in Miami Beach. There's a road sign in town stating the mileage to Miami.

I don't know if I'll be up there this year. I took the week off from work but I need a rental car for the week and they're too pricey. If someone has a spare Subaru to let me use from the 20th to the 27th let me know, I can provide free accommodations for the weekend of the rally in return.

So who all is going to this? I called Scott Putnam (Bloomington Subaru and subaru.net) and spoke with him for awhile. I think I am going to take off work and try to tag along with him and his team for the drive up from Minneapolis.

It will be my first rally so it sounds like a good time.

Would love to meet up with any of the others that will be there. I met Deride at the ice race two years ago and had a great time.

    I will be there Thursday-Sunday.

Heading up on Thursday, probably around noon, but maybe earlier.

I'm working as a spectator marshal both days. Friday I can't say for sure where I'll be, but on Saturday I'll be on the Delaware stage at the Delta. Anyone wants to tag along and help is welcome :)

Look for the black wrx wagon with Hellas, red club stickers, and either an itty bitty (for when I'm moving) antenna or a friggin' huge antenna that's taller than the car (for when I'm parked in the woods).

Anyone expecting to be there at a particular time should be aware that Houghton is in Eastern time, so you lose an hour in the trip. (i.e. if you leave at 12 and it takes you 7 hours, you'll get there at 8). This really messed me up the first year I went to spectate there.

I had to cancel my vacation up there because stupid work can't get their facts straight as to when they need me to actually work. This will be the first time I've missed LSPR since '99. I really shouldn't have an excuse to miss going since I have a house I can use right on the lake west of Houghton (which will soon have a slab-heated garage). Looks like my brother will be up there with his family instead.

My parents will be retiring to that house in a few years and then my brother and I will have no excuse not to visit them when I'm up there for the race. Think they planned it that way?

Whoo Hooo! 1 1/2 more hours of work then its home to pack the car and out the door at O 500,(as in "O my god that's early!"). Pick up co-driver, Carrie, in Aitkin and then to Kenton service by noon to help banner. It sounds like snbrd4evr might be helping us banner, I hope? Then we can get done in a decent amount of time to kick back a bit after checking in to hotel and to rally to volunteer.

Don't know how many stages we'll get to run but please take some pics if you see me go by in the wagon, we'll be an hour ahead of the racers (see avatar but with yet aother set of lights on the front), we didn't take a single pic of the car at OFPR (WRX1 got a pic of it mid brake line change at the hotel but that's not the same). If we're broken, please help! I'm hoping the premise of, "if you have to tool to fix it then it won't break" holds true cause I'm bringing enough tools to give a few teams a run for their money.

Safe trip to all. See ya there! Amy

p.s. there were flurries in Houghton this a.m.

Once again i can't find my goddamned "normal" lugnuts. So my snow tires are sitting all around the car, waiting for me to find the nuts. Argh.

I'm not leaving until noon tomorrow anyhow.

Any dinner plans Amy? I'm expecting to roll into Houghton around 8pm eastern, and I'm thinking about hitting the BBQ the local G2 guys are doing.

I'll be marshalling too and I'm probably going to be on my own. So if you can tolerate me for a long period of time. I'd totally marshal with ya. Do you know if people are bannering tomorrow morning? I'm considering it because it's tons of fun. I lost all my phone numbers because of a stupid sim card. So pm me with yours and I'll send you mine right after this message.
