Ok, there has been plenty of interest in this so it's time to do something official. I'm going to brew a batch of beer (TBD what kind of beer, right now I'm thinking extra special bitter). I invite anyone that is interested in what is needed to homebrew to join. This is not an open invite to come drink all of my beer. Sorry freeloaders. I will be offering a sample of my current homebrew, but I will not be providing the never-ending cup. If enough people express interest but can't make the date I've planned for, I'd be up for moving it and/or having a 2nd event. Date: January 24, 2009 11am to about 2pm or so. Location: Ryan's garage / house (PM for location) What to bring: If you want to enjoy some beer, maybe bring some with you. I'm all about new and interesting beers, so maybe bring something that you don't think many have tried. I'm all about sharing the beers. I'll try to get my hands on some interesting stuff. BTW, Budweiser is not interesting. Bring a pint glass or keggy cups if you can If your more interested in learning how to brew then just how it's done, I'd recommend bringing a notebook and pen to take notes. No, I will not make fun of you. I have taken plenty of notes. I can provide you with my excel worksheet full of tips, brews, etc. Remember a large portion of this will be done in my garage. Please dress appropriately. I will have the garage door closed, it's insulated, and we'll have a gas burner going. I'm not saying it's going to be super warm in there, but I'm hoping it will be warmer then outside. The garage is fully equipped with a dart board, cable tv, dvd player, and music. If you have folding chairs, I'd plan on bringing one or a few. I have limited seating in the garage. This is my birthday weekend. I plan on going out afterwords to drink more beer. I invite you all along as we'll be hitting up fun, non-yuppie bars. I am a strong supporter of not drinking and driving. If you want to get stupid with me, please contact me ahead of time. I have plenty of space at my house to crash or please plan a sober driver. Hope to see those who have expressed interest in homebrewing there. :cheers2: Update on after-brewing plans: Shamrocks in st. paul for tasty burgers thanks to Casper and Runyon, then The Happy Gnome and/or Muddy Pig for tasty beers. Update: Weather is looking a bit chilly. If anyone has an extra portable heater, be it electric or whatever, that would be great. Also I would highly recommend bringing a chair. Like I said before I have a few, but most of mine are in the shed which is stuck closed thanks to the snow.
Sounds like a good time! You guys have fun, I'll be making rootbeer here in Rochester. Hopefully no exploding PET bottles! Wish me luck! ESB = yum!
I'd love to come but unfortunately can't make it on the 24th. If you have a second date I'd like to see someone with experience do it. If you wouldn't mind sharing your notes it would be much appreciated.
Czech Pilsner. I got bonus points for that being Czech myself. twofivers: No worries man. I'll do another one in the spring.
I'll be there for the homebrew and bars later. I'll bring something interesting to share, too. Thanks for putting this on, Ryan!
yeah, I'll definatly bring something unique. I wont be able to stay and go to the after hours at this point. But ya never know, maybe things will work out.
Hmm, might have to check this out! I've always wanted to see how much is involved, and I'm sick of paying $$$ for delicious IPA's!
I'm going to try to get up there and hit up Midwestsupplies for, well, supplies for my next batch or two.
I'm still comming. but I have to break out about 2ish, even if it runs a little long. I'm having a snowboard tuning party at my house.
I need my snowboard tuned. Maybe we can work out a deal. I buy the wax and you bring the goods? I'd do it myself but I don't have an iron/edger/etc etc
About 24 hours till brew-time. I'll be headin to Northern Brewer during lunch today. If for some reason someone wants me to get something for them there please PM me or e-mail be before 11am today. An additional note added to OP: If anyone has an extra heater that they are willing to bring over that would be really helpful. Like I said I have a electric heater plus we'll have the external propane burner going for the boil. I just know it can be miserable to be cold, so I think one more heater could make the whole garage nice and toasty. Plan on being in the garage for about 2 hours. It is insulated, so that does help plus we'll have the door closed.
Yeahh.. that's been a problem in the past. But it typically happens when i turn on the air compressor. Bring it along so if we do need it we'll have it. Additional Item: I'd recommend everyone to bring some kind of pint glass if you got it. I couldn't find my plastic keggy cups and there's some pint glasses I just won't bring out to the garage. Yes, call me an elitist *******. it's ok. One Last thing: I have a dog. She's 18lbs of pure death. She'll ****ing kill you. But, she's hypo-allergenic because her breed doesn't shed. So those of you allergic to dogs should be fine. My wife is allergic to pet dander and we don't have a problem unless we're shaving the dog.
the dog will kill you, i have seen it before. i will be over there after i run to the dealership to check out a car, i may be bringing a friend with also
Ryan, Any chance you would be willing to do another one at the end of Feb or anytime in March? I would REALLY like to see how it works before I buy my own kit but I'll be in CA for work.
Hmmm, this is like going to my first show and tell when I was in the first grade. I wonder what glass I should bring....*scratches head* :cheers2:
Yes, I'll wait till it's spring time and we all want to be enjoying the outdoors. I'm guessing more like April or May.
Pale ale? Don't know if I'll make it. My car is out until I get my new idler pulley. But me and a friend were possibly going to golf galaxy and I wanted to hit up midwestsupplies. Maybe we can swing by. Stay warm! It's gonna be bf-cold out!
woohoo ESB, good stuff. I'm gonna stop by the four firkins tonight to pick up something to share tomorrow.
I may be able to make this. While I don't drink, it should be a good time and it's right in my backyard. Ryan, if you and Erin would like to drink tomorrow night I can volunteer my services as a driver for a birthday present
Just woke up now after cleaning and takin a nap with the dog. I'm looking forward to some tasty burgers and tasty beers in an hour and a half. See some of you soon! -Ryan
