Has anyone done any upgrading to the interior lights? I have seen a few kits to switch to LED interior dome lights and was curious if/how people liked them and what their experiences and recommendations are about them.

    Thanks!

I have the led panel u can buy at autozone in mine and it makes a huge difference in light output. however the dimmer function when you close the door is very jerky as would be expected when you try and dim a led like that. all in all very happy with them.

I changed all of mine to the red led inserts. Dont ask why but its cool as long as don't want to read anything in the car. I also did the lower dash in red led strips for night riding.

I have 1.5watt LED dome lights in both fixtures in my 4Runner. Love 'em! I got them from www.autolumination.com

I've also gotten some LEDs from www.superbrightleds.com , but don't assume everything they have is super-bright. I was pretty dissapointed with their base model taillights and such. But their return policy was quite reasonable, so it wasn't too big a deal.

Also, for custom setups, try www.oznium.com , I have a bunch of their lights in my 4Runner (some surface mount LEDs under the hood that automatically come on when the hood is opened).

I upgraded my interior lights to LED and couldn't be happier. I love the whiter light, and when hitting the auto unlock, the light from the cab is much brighter than the stock bulbs.
This vendor on NASIOC sells kits to replace the interior and license plate bulbs.

Be careful what you buy. I have LEDs in my Legacy's dome, map, puddle, CMHSL, back-up, and had them in the license housing. License bulbs kept falling out of the sockets so I went back to incandescent. Dome, map and back-up do not throw as much illumination as the OEM bulbs.

    (Zombie thread!)

I'm not a huge fan of the super white LED lights - has anyone added more lighting that is close to the OEM color temperature - (slightly warm)?

I'd like to add some lighting to the front roof console that will light when the doors open, as well as something for the footwells (I can't remember how well those were lit up).

LED strips may work for my trunk and possibly under the hood. Any one of those better or worse than the rest?

I bought my LEDs from v-leds.com. I did the maps, license, all front markers (amber) and the dome light. I went with the "cool white" (5k) rather than the 6k blue white....

As far as adding more lights in the forward console, I could only assume it would be as easy as paralleling a set of wires off of the dome light harness and modifying the forward overhead console. That is if you are comfortable hacking into that harness.... I pondered doing the same things...

I'm pretty comfortable tearing into just about anything, provided I won't get bored before it's back together.

After seeing some pix of the cool whites, I think that would be pretty solid. I've got a lot of room for improvement with my cabin lighting.
