I'm thinking of getting a new phone and I am considering getting one of these. Does anybody have/had one? Is this a decent phone, worth the money?

actually I am thinking of a new pda/touch phone.. but there isnt much that has a lot fo the things I want.. then I saw the new one from verizon... touchscreen etc...

I want wireless/wifi touchscreen, messaging, notes, calender, texting and all that good stuff..

was looking at iphones (waits for burns) cause of the fact it is an all in one... adn I need a new ipod so why not get it all in one.. I just am refusing to spend the monthly fee to have one..

watching this thread for interesting insights...

I hear ya, I've been toying with the idea of getting one as well...It'd actually be cheaper in the long run than what I'm paying now. :hsugh:

my sister has an lg shine, i thought it was nice.
not my style, but it's still nice.
got to test it for a bit, but didn't really get to use it for long.
so I wouldn't know too much about the phone.

I'm waiting for the new blackberry storm before I get a new phone. I want to check it out in person first though. I'm kinda stuck to Verizon for a few different reasons, but i get sick deals though my work, plus healthy discounts on my plan.

They're keeping it competitive with the iPhone. So with a new plan it will be cheap. haha

From what I can gather from the BB forums, the price with a 2 year contract will be $219.99, nobody is sure what exactly the msrp is going to be. I doubt it will be $700+, but who know's.

I have one as well and it's pretty decent. The hard end key is annoying as hell though as it never seem to work correctly (delay or not work at all).

    EVDO = FTW
Google maps + gps = major FTW
also the predictive text is the best I've used. I can type as fast if not faster than a regular phone.

more on topic my co worker picked up a pair of shines. His son took it on a log ride and completely soaked it. It still works although the screen is a little dirty inside now. Not much help but it seems to be a decent phone.

another question.. if the phone has ifi capabilities do you still get charged to use it?? ie on your plan or only if you use the phone itself when no internet is available...

while typing that I think I gave myself the answer but.... seeing as I have always just had either nextel or basic phones...

I am 98% sure I will be going for the storm in a few weeks... I just want to be able to do internet, texting pda stuff

$199 with a new line and a 2 year contract. 599 for the phone with no contract aka if you already have Verizon service.

It does not have wi-fi, but you can use it as a tandem modem which is pretty sweet imo.

tandem modem?? as in the phones service which is like $1.99 / mb correct...

I was talking to my Dad back in Australia and his friend who works with tech stuff says they have been having a lot of issues with this phone and that the screen isnt covered... if you get a scratch on it the screen is pretty much useless... that they have also been getting a lot of hardware issues, viruses etc...

hmmm.. I want something that has wifi... maybe they will release it in the future.. why would they have the latest greatest phone and not offer it with wifi when their other ones have it??

Tandem modem = you hook up your laptop to it and use it as a modem to access the internet at 3G speeds.

I havent heard any people having problems with the touch screen on the BB forums, but the rumor of it not being covered is not true. First, if anything goes wrong with your phone within 30 days Verizon just automatically gives you a new phone. Second, BB has a one year warrenty of all there phones. Third, I have insurance through Verizon that cost me $4 per month and if ANYTHING happens to the phone they replace it.

Wi-Fi is probably the only thing they did leave off this phone, but I really dont feel the need for it imo.

the only reason I wanted wifi is to do internet at NO cost to me ;)... I aint paying $1.99 per mb for it.. I have better things to spend money on when I already have internet at home...

and the insurance coverage thing was from Australia so probably a little more cheaper over there

I guess I am just too cheap.. ha ha ha paying more than $50 a mth for cell service is crazy for me....

but I guess thats cause we prefer to use our money elsewhere.. like feeding the basketball team we are raising.. paying 2 mortgages, trying to convince teh wife to buy me mods etc.. ha ha ha
