My lifters on my GC are ticking, so I was wondering if WRX or STI lifters are upgrade for my car? Are the lifters any big problem I should worry about?

as i like to say about subaru motors: "If its not ticking, its probably broken"

    they all tick.

You can try a different type of oil. When i switched to royal purple from castrol synthetic there was less engine tick noise. It runs smoother too.

I get valve tick and piston slap. My engine is in peak running condition. I wouldn't be too worried unless it turns more into a knock.

If you're in the 100k range - you're due for a valve adjustment job.

yeah my car makes a good amount of ticking but no knocking at all. subaru's make lots of noise. kinda lame but its how they are i guess. ive only seen 2 subarus that didnt make any tick or much engine noise for the matter. and yes they were running. haha

Just a little clarification. Subaru engines do not have lifters. Pushrod engines do...

What year is the car? A DOHC '98 would need adjustment at 100k, but I'm not sure of the '99 and newer single cam motors and if they have hydraulic lash adjusters. HLA's eliminate the need to adjust the lash.

sohc 2.2s (phz 1) have automatic valve lash adjusters, so basicly "lifters" they are controlled by oil, just like lifters.
