It just disappeared! I searched and found a thread by ej20 and that he was in Valet mode...and I tried getting out of it in mine, but it didn't work. Here's the details:

    '07 WRX
Just had a CEL pulled (and deleted) today
Car alarm randomly went off while in the garage...must've hit something in my pocket

So far, I've tried the "activating/deactivating the chirp noise" instructions from the manual, disabled then activated the alarm, tried to get out of valet mode.

    WTF happened!??!

No idea on activating/de-activating the chirp, but it sounds like you have that part covered. If you've done everything else right, it might be mechanical. Have you checked the chirper (plastic horn located on the center pillar behind the center grill piece) or the wiring to it? Otherwise, reset?

Mine doesn't do the chirp on lock or unlock sometimes. No rhyme or reason but seems to be an issue a lot of people see.

hold both buttons (lock and un-lock) on your remote for 3 or so sec and it should turn the chirp back on...that worked for my '02 wrx

I was wondering about this myself. '04 WRX wagon -- I swear the chirper has mood swings. Originally I thought it had something to do with temperature, since it didn't seem to work after it had been out in the sun for a while and started working again after it had been in the shade. But now I've experienced some exceptions to that, so I think it pretty much has a mind of its own.

At this point, if I'm not sure it's locked I'll press the lock button a couple more times until it honks lightly...

Mine seems to have random mood swing on what tone it wants to sound off.

Do a search on nasioc for keyless chirp/beep.... and you will see many threads about it being flaky. Apparently it is right behind the grill by the factory horn. Since I am under warranty still I will wait 'till mine dies totally before I have them replace it.

Another random question, is it possible to get it to beep a different tone? My car is quite a bit higher pitch than every other Subaru I've heard.

I am going to venture a guess in looking at mine just now it could be replaced with any 12v? device that emits a sound. IE horn, buzzer(from another vehicle, brand?), alarm......

Just kinda of a curious question, but are your lights still working? When my car was in valet mode last week, my lights and horn did not work. In order to take it in and out of valet mode had to hold unlock button for three seconds with the driver door open. I have an 02 WRX.

Yes, my lights are still flashing. That's how I knew I wasn't in valet.

People bringing up the topic of the beeper being flaky reminds me that sometimes when I chirped it to either lock or unlock it made a sound like 12 year old going through puberty. Maybe mine is just shot!
