Hello, I am going to be changing my tranny fluid here soon and lack the facilities or the Subaru know how to get it done in a reasonable amount of time. So I am looking for someone who has the things needed to perform the work and would be willing to help me get it done. I was planning on putting "Uncle Scotties Cocktail" in my car and would be willing to bring you one as well, I also have some Surley in my fridge I would bring along. If anyone would be willing to help me out that would be awesome!
http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18486 This is a really good write up on how to do it. What year and model car? Also its very easy, but if you have no place to do it it will make it harder.
Its as easy as an oil change but just have to deal with a little tight spot. I highly recommand a small long drain tube. It'll make your day way much easier. I did my 02WRx with a normal length drain tube(8-10") and I spill some fluid. I guess my drain tube is a little big and short.
long funnal and drain pan,is very simple if u read riteup could probably do it in your driveway.or any shop will probably hook it up like an oil change if you bring the fluids
alot of mixed reviews? why did you take yours out.curius i just put it in seams to shift alot better.
try is right, 81 pages? can some one sumerize it please? is it good or bad, cuz i run the grimspeed cocktail, and its close to the same.. i can help ya, got full shop access in longlake, if ya wanna drive, u can leave your old fluids, and i have the torx bit if its needed, PM me
i would not trust the cocktail if you plan on owning the car very long. subaru extra-s is what I personally run
Hmmm, when I put in my cocktail last summer my tranny felt great, nice and smooth, since then I've only put about 4k miles on my car and now I'm feeling a bit of grind when going into 1st, and from 1st to 2nd... -_- I think I am going to switch out the cocktail as well. Is the Subaru Extra-S sold at stealerships?
Yes, the Extra-S is sold at dealerships. I ran the Scottys' with mixed results. My 02 WRX did great with it, and I didn't have any issues related to it. However, my 01RS had it in for about 3k miles and has had bearing noise ever since. I don't recommend using the cocktail either. I've been running Castrol 80-90 Hypoy C in there and it's been working great. I'll probably switch over to Extra-S during the next changeover.
4 separate choices. In addition to the info in that thread, I'd just personally stray away from mixing fluids...
I had a feeling that the winter cold would have some weird effects on the tranny cocktail..as soon as the cold came and went I started to get the grind..
