If you're going to use your car for the winter, consider it a bad idea. Readymix had one on his WRX when he moved up here, and his car didn't blow any heat from the vents. Anyway, here's what I found on Froogle.

    For EJ20 turbo engines

Especially designed for the Subaru EJ20 turbo engine. Crank out the maximum EJ20 powerand maintian a stressless engine by keeping the coolant temperature 70 - 80 degrees. Accordingly, the cooling system aims to achieve these levels. By installing Cool Thermo, drivers can significantly reduce the coolant temperature by 7 degrees and circulating the coolant at around 71 degrees. Cool Thermo contributes to coolant temperature increase prevention, and maintains the optimal power delivery environment.

Get the Crucial Racing T-stat...much cheaper. Very reliable. And yes, you will have no heater in the dead of winter...be prepared.

You will also lose a bit on the fuel milage with a cooler t-stat.

Well, you can get heat...but you wont get it if you are moving faster than about 35mph in temperatures below 32 degrees. At least that is my experience.

Yep, pretty much. I drove to Chicago with that CR T-stat in my car during the middle of winter to pick up my RS hood. I left at 11pm that night. By 1am I had stopped 3 times to warm up. The dummy temp sensor was pegged on the lowest setting. If I parked the car but left it running, then it would warm up and the heater would start working. But by the time I was at the end of the onramp to the freeway, it was blowing ice cold air again. If you are going to use a racing t-stat, make sure you have a heat blanket...preferably one that plugs into the cigarette lighter. Also, foot warmers.

Here is a solution I found, it works down to about 0 degrees Farenheit. Well, for me it worked. Get a piece of cardboard (I used a couple brown paper bags) and put them in front of the radiator. I've seen people tape them, or use zipties through the radiator if you have room. Usually there isn't enough room for them to fall out anyway. But a pair of paperbags stacked on eachother blocks enough surface area on your radiator to help keep the temps up enough to get heat in the winter. Granted, it wasn't super hot air, but it was enough to stay comfortable at highway speeds. No frozen fingertips or anything.

^^So that's why I always see semis and buses with their radiators blocked with a cardboard with holes in it. Thank you for answering my curiosity.

I usually put a nice size card board in front of the radiator in all my cars I drive in the winter, even with the stock thermostat, with the subzero freeze chills, I still cannot get enough heating.
