what lowering springs will give an aggressive look but at the same time it wont be too low for the winter? thanks
one word... prodrive. i loved mine, lowered it nicely and worked fine on my stock struts. Rode fine all winter long, even drove them to the ice races with no problems.
+1 to that. They give a modest drop, a slightly higher spring rate and don't sacrifice any bump travel. Prodrive did their homework!
what do you guys think about the Tenabe gf210 springs? to aggressive for mn winter or about the same as the prodrives? solomon
They were never installed, brand new in the box. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1339347
I just recently dropped mine on Tein S-techs. About a 1.5 drop all around and it still rides pretty nice. Affordable as well.
I went with Whiteline to try something different. So far no problems and about a 1.5 inch drop as well.
Come on, when is somebody going to comment about how crappy the tein S-techs are........? Me, I have the Tein S-techs. If you run them you will need a different shock setup, but they will drop your car to a beautiful (my opinion) ride height. Another downside, they will drop your car nicely, but you don't gain much, if anything, for performance
If you've got a sedan, another option would be STI takeoff springs. Same rate as the SPT WRX springs, and about the same drop (~10mm). That will give you an increase in spring rate, a minor drop and a performance improvement for less than $100 or so.
Prodrive ProdriveProdriveProdriveProdriveProdriveProdriveProdrive I did a ton of research on the right lowering springs and these fit the bill perfectly stechs suck because they leave you with no suspension travel and are actually softer in the rear than the stocker which = crappy handling tanabe gf210's are too stiff for stock struts and ride like crap eibachs give a minimal drop that is harly noticable. Prodrives can be put on either a wagon or sedan and give a super agressive look without loosing the drivability that subarus are known for, I take mine down prarie trails all the time on fishing trips and its at the perfect height. The rates are slightly stiffer than the stockers but still work fine with stock struts. My handling improved my 10x when I put them in.
Normally I would recommend the Prodrives all day long. However, for a sedan I still think the STI takeoffs are a better option. The spring rates are nearly identical, the Prodrives drop about 10mm more but is 10mm worth the extra money? One thing to keep in mind, if you're running an 02-03 you'll need to get 04 tophats in the rear to run the takeoffs. That being said, I ran a set of 02-03 Prodrives (not to be confused with the 04+, the spring rates are different) and I loved them, they were a great spring for the money and weren't too low to go cruising around in the snow.
I have Prodrives on my car right now and you cant even tell its dropped at all...in fact, stock 04 STi's are lower then my 05.
Just to fuel the Tein debate.... Look at the numbers for the Tein springs. I don't think you can find a spring Tein makes that isn't stiffer than the stock setup. The problem with the setup is that the percent increase for the front springs is much larger than the rear. This further fuels the WRX's tendency to under steer. I'm not saying it is a good setup, but the Teins get thrown under the bus way too much and at least one owner needs to shed some light.
Does anyone know if the SPT springs can be used with stock struts on an '03 wrx sedan? I picked up a set but haven't installed them because I was thinking of getting some KYB AGX's to go with. If they won't kill my stock struts, I'd like to go that route as they better suit my driving style and the wife factor.
same on my '05 STi w/ Prodrives, but OP's profile says 02 WRX, which would start out a lot higher....
not if you get the prodrives that are designed for 02-03 if you buy prodrive springs that are for 04 and up you will need new rear top hats.
They didnt make a USDM 92 Legacy GT, i believe 94 was the first year of the GT and it was with the raised roof before the chassis revision. Pretty rare to find. This site should answer your questions on spring swapping to BC Legacys: http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=22419 and http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=2153
http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17723 Post #3 will explain which struts/springs/hats work together. Like I already said, there are more options for the 04+ cars, you'll just need new hats in the rear because the spring design is different.
