Yeah this thing needs some work... I love how at least 6 different things pop up automatically every time I restart it. Sometimes I open it and the screen just stays black until I manually turn it off, also I have to restart it every time I try finding a new wireless network... If anyone is bored and wants to pm me some advice about tidying this thing up, it'd be greatly appreciated.

lol agree with a lot of the points here. readymix, dell 620 kicks ass, specialy with the wrist wrest extended battery. very nice notebook.

buy and wipe is always a good idea, a few companies give restore disks only which put it right back the way it was so noobs dont really have that choice though. dell gives a disk if you choose it when buying it for 10 dollars

ive never ever had antivirus on my main box and to date ive never had a virus, first pc being a 286. common sense ftw. everyone i know though i tell them they HAVE to have it though because i know they lack common computer sense.

programming linux (aka mac) takes some skills that many dont have, but the stuff that is out now is geared for mass replication to spam out product (viagra emails via pc hijack). its a buissiness, not a bunch of kids anymore.

Just buy a cheap ass used pc if all you are doing is interweb. Dont waste your money on mac marketing scheme ****....and if u want a new one build it for about 300-400 bucks.

Remember, he's looking for a laptop here. There's usually not much building a laptop by yourself. Also, Saabaru (and anyone else that's interested), if you're going on the Duluth Cruise, just bring your lappy with you and I can hack through it.

Depends on what type of gaming you are referring to. I can see games like Silent Hill, fighting games, sports games and such being better on a console. But FPS is far more controllable on a PC using a mouse to AIM. I played HalfLife on the PS2 recently and it was the most awful experience I've ever had. To each their own, I don't have a big high end gaming machine, but for the hardcore FPS players, I know the PC is the only way to go.
Plus, ever XBOX online multiplayer game I've ever seen seems to be rampant with 13yr olds yelling 'fag' over and over again on their voice comm.

I picked up a 4 port Playstation controller to USB converter. I have MAME32 and a few games for it. Nothing quite at fun and nostalgic as playing 4 player TMNT Arcade on the 57" HD widescreen

Dragging a PC to Duluth isn't going to happen, but at the t3hw00t parties we sometimes break it out.

I work 4 a store that both sells and uses PC's and Mac's. Both have their good and bad points. For internet-email-music-pictures I use a the Mac. No virus problems, no anti virus software needed and they almost never crash. Load the OS and your apps and use it for years without ever reloading software agian. Macs are great. For specialty apps that are only written for PC's Mac's can also be set up for XP or Vista boot. You get both in one computer. If you need to interface with serial ports and use floppies for old programs then we use PC's. Driver conflicts and a once a year reload of the OS and apps is required but windows XP is pretty stabil. I use a Sony laptop and they have a great website with updates available. PC user's are very stuborn to change and most are unwilling to learn a new OS like the Mac's use. Most Mac users are X PC users and know both.
