So typically I'll take the light rail to work, it's much quicker than the bus which is the main reason I take it. I park at the MoA since it's free, has a somewhat enclosed parking ramp and the light rail is right there. This morning, I pull into the entrance to the MoA and notice the parking ramp is blocked off. There is a sign that says "Ramp opens at 8am and closes at 3am". Both ramps were like this, including the parking lots surrounding the mall. WTF Usually I would see a total of 15-20 cars parked there at 6:30am when I get there, and maybe 40 when I leave. The mall is ALWAYS dead during the week, so what the hell is up their asses? I understand the MoA has nothing to do with the light rail, but why does the MoA have to close off their parking ramp, right above where the light rail goes, when the people who do park there aren't taking up more than 40 spots. /rant
I know some people who have been towed from that ramp for using light rail. One of the other nearby stations has a park and ride and they want you to use them, not MOA. You're lucky you just got this and not towed. (And I agreed they're asses)
It's surprising that it took this long for them to close the ramps like they did. Well I'll consider myself lucky for not getting towed, and go back to taking the bus to work. My bus route picks me up a half block from my house, and drops me off right in front of my building. No complaining here.
Thats sucks, I'm sure the mall isn't exactly full during the week. On another messed up parking note: A few weeks ago I went to meet my g/f at the airport. Since it was nice I decided to take my bike. When I got there I found out there is no parking in the ramp and the only place to park is in valet parking. $10 for the first hour and $3 for every hour after that. I was not amused. some pretty cool cars down there though.
I work at the mall and the reason they close it is because they don't want people parking their car overnight. Especially so close to the airport where people can park for a week if they wanted and not pay for parking at the airport. We (Underwater Adventures) have a huge issue with this because we have overnights where you can "sleep with the sharks" and people park overnight. What your best bet is to park in the lot across the east parking garage and walk the 100 yards into the parking ramp and light rail. You'll be parked outside, but you won't get crap for it.
Oh no, I just got a dive guard position  I'm one of the guys that protects the other divers from getting too close to the large sharks while diving. Amazing they trust me with that
I don't think much crime happens at 6:30am on a weekday morning at the MoA, compared to 2:00am Friday/Saturday morning.
