Like the subject title says. Took it down the onramp a little too hard, hit 7k, knocking a bit now from 3k-5k. Haven't even drained the oil yet, but pretty sure it's spun. The knock isn't bad enough to be audible at idle and it drives ok but I would rather not. Problem is its a jdm v5 sti ej207 and its hella cold right now and I'm pretty down about it so I don't wanna work on it. Will just have to drive the beater legacy. I don't have the time or money for a full rebuild of the block. Assuming the heads are still good, I'd just like to get a decent 257 and drop it in and tune with PFC. A 207 would be ideal but I'm not sure where I can get one that I'm sure has no problems. Once it gets warmer I will have to tear the thing down so I know what I'll need, or if anyone can recommend a shop to do it I'll try that route. Just not looking forward to tearing the thing down myself.
dang...it seems like this is the worst winter for our subies in MN....i too am putting an sti 257 block in at the moment...
Ya I got in touch with Impresiv about it the other day. Apparently there's a local shop called David Wray Auto specializing in subarus that I can probably call to see what my options are. The problem doesn't seem too bad yet, can't even tell there's a problem til it warms up and you rev it up a bit - then you hear the periodic knocking in what I think is cylinder 3 from what I presume is some kinda slack, whether from spun bearing or bent/broken pins or whatever. Or the piston could be toast and/or banging within the cylinder, again, from some kinda slack from an as yet unknown problem, but I think it'd be a lot more obvious than it is if the piston was toast. Right now, my plans are to wait til it gets warm enough, take off manifolds + accessories, call up the shop, and just shove the bare long block in my legacy and cart it down there for them to crack it open and take a look, since I have no experience prodding around the internals. Whatever the diagnosis is, I'll just have to go from there. Sucks cuz I had all these plans to tune the thing with loads of parts I already have on the way and was planning take the thing out to BIR this summer too. Now that's all down the drain... hopefully I can scrounge up the cash to get it up and running well by the end of summer.
