Occasionally I'm popping a CEL during idle or right as I'm pulling out of my driveway or leaving somewhere. It seems to happen when the engine is already hot. I figured it was heat related with a bigger turbo and no heat shield. Since that point I hacked up a stocker and put it on there to really no avail(only the hot side hat, not the bottom piece that bolts on the tranny altho I'm looking into that if it will fit). My car used to do this when I had a Jorge tune 4 years ago but never this frequently. The code popped is a misfire in 1 or 1/3. This happens every couple days but doesn't affect the drivability of the car. Is this a tuning issue? Tom mentioned my idle was crappy when he rode in it and may not have been tuned. Or could this be something else like spark or fuel? Any ideas or input? Thanks!

    Last time plugs were changed?
Swap coil packs & plugs around?
    Injectors?

Have someone log your car @ idle (Roughness Monitor Cyl 1-4)

Plugs changed last summer. Denso Iridium should still be fine.
Coil packs were inspected for heat damage(like Dreams)but not flipped around.

Injectors are Perrin 816 modded stockers.

One other thing I forgot to add is my car was tuned twice. It did not misfire and set a cel once during the time between my first and second tune. Then a few days after the 2nd tune(the turn the boost up tune) it started popping the code but that isn't to say the tune caused it. I'm sure if it was something heat related it may not have been damaged yet. I have had some heat issues with my car melting the surrounding tranmission wires. There is a substantial amount of heat being retained in that area next to the turbo.

how old is the coolant and is it up to lvl? Try swaping coil packs and see if the misfire follows. i dont like iridums i prefer my good old ngk copper.

Sure - let me just get it fixed first for ya

Maybe I'm wrong but I would think a coil pack or plug would be bad all the time or most of the time not just at idle. I'd think if anything electrical was going to fail it would be at WOT or at least under power.

Check you maf for dirty hot wire. Do you use on the filter element?

I got a new injector clip from Fobia. Hopefully I can get it in there tomorrow nite and see if thats the problem. It looks pretty suspect like the wires are barely in there. Nuke logged it at idle and cleaned my maf and its still doing it. I have roughness in cylinder one. If its still doing it after the clip is installed then i'm going to check plug/coil pack/injector.

It'll just pop up a solid CEL with a flashing cruise (just like any other CEL)

Yeah I know sometimes I forget to push the clutch in when I start it :hsugh:

It was a cylinder 1 misfire code that triggered. It was a solid code not a flashing that came on during idle. The plug I got was different so we just superglued the wiring to the plastic plug already in there. Its just a quick fix until I can get a different end to wire in. No CEL codes yet today or last nite though. The car feels like it is idling better also.

    :eek4: Superglued?
All you had to do was ask me for a new clip.

If you have one I'll take it. That was just a quick fix to see if it helped.
