Here's an attempt at an HDR shot of my engine bay. I just used the auto-bracket feature on my point and shoot to take three exposures and merge them together. Then just played with the levels and contrast.

I'm not always a fan of HDR shots, sometimes they look too fake, but sometimes it works. I did this mostly because I wanted to learn how it's done.

^ Looks great! Especially for free hand on a point and shoot. The yellow and blacks really pop out. It is very bright which may be what you were going for, however I normally like my pictures to be alittle darker.

I have found that darkening the final picture a little bit or removing a tiny bit of saturation helps mellow out the HDR effect and smooth out the overall image, atleast it works for me.

These 2 pics kind of illustrate what I mean. the first pic is the raw HDR merge from 3 curved/leveled jpegs. The greens are obnoxiously bright. I then pulled out some saturation and the second pic is the result.

Looks like something from Oblivion. Very computer-generated look.

Thanks. Yeah, I think that's the look I was going for, but I'm just making it so it looks good on my monitor. Out of your two photos I actually like the first one better too. I think I will try different saturation levels next time though and see how that looks.

I have done all of my editing on my laptop, so everything I touch up ends up looking pretty good on my lappy screen which is not a great thing for a couple reasons. The first being that I have no clue if I have the screen at the right (or same) angle for viewing images and as such each image might be edited to look completely terrible on a proper screen. The second being that I don' think my lappys screen was designed to be for high quality photo editting (or else it would have more guts to run PS CS2)

    Check out this page.
    http://www.photofriday.com/calibrate.php

I have two different LCD monitors at home and that page looks a quite a bit different between the two. I was doing my photo editing on the monitor that displayed that page the best (according to their description).

You can use something like that to see what's the best angle/settings on your laptop screen.

I am looking into getting a new LCD monitor for doing some photo editting. Is there any that you guys would recommend. I have heard some good things about the Acers. I am looking in the 20"+ size around the 150-175 price mark.

I just ordered up a monitor. I picked up a Acer 23" 1920x1080p. Should be here in a day or two so I will post up a picture when I get it.

^Thanks! I am very excited. this will be the first LCD monitor I have owned (except for laptops). I think it might take some getting used to the widescreen format as I am used to square monitors.

w00t new monitor came UPS today. woke up and checked the delivery status and it said "front door". Setup was super simple, just had to plug it in and it did the rest. I am already lost with the excessive amount of work area I have to play with. There is a HUGE difference in image quality between my lappy screen and the new 1080p display.

Here is the first picture of it: I will try and get a better one in the future, but I am having fun with CS2 right now.

Now I just need the rest of my desk to arrive.

Ohhh thats sweet. What a treat for a first LCD. My first LCD was a dell 17" =\ You'll find the widescreen pretty helpful especially when editing in ps

Thanks. I have been enjoying it so far. I have only had a couple of hours and I am already impressed at how much easier it is to use photoshop with it. I have just started tackling the massive pile of photos I took over the last month (~2000 or so). So expect to see me posting so new photos.

also I think I figured out how to get Diablo II to run in 1920x1080p on it ;-)

Been editing photos for most of the day from my trip to SD and MT. Here is one that I thought was cool. I took this out of the passenger window of my buddy's car in the Bad Lands.

Hey guys I have a quick question about using PS, hopefully this is the place to ask :ugh: I was trying to use the paint brush tool and the color I selected said "Warning: color out of gamut for printing" and it wouldn't let me use it. Is there a setting I need to change to be able to use the custom color I selected?

^ I have no clue about that. I never use the paint brush tool.

I snapped a couple more pictures today. The new supposedly squirrel proof bird feeder is not so.

I had some issues creating my border on the second photo due to cropping the image, I will have to figure that one out at some point.
