What do you guys think about replacement intakes?

John said that with the WRX there isn't really any point to replace the intake with a short ram vs a drop in due to the turbo. I know a cold air of give me for hp but the issue is water and snow in MN. I don't want water getting sucked in.

Should I got a replacement intake or drop in a better filter to the stock intake?

My suggestion is do whats in your best interest! From my experience I have had both. I personally prefer the CAI for my Turbo car and high compression N/A track car. What I have noticed is at WOT on the track the difference is rather beneficial.

What some of us will do in a rain situation is separate the intake pipe at the joint where it goes into the wheel well.

Water induction shouldn't be a problem, you have fender covers n stuff. But, AEM makes something that protects from it if you still want it... It goes in between the piping as a coupler and if the pressure drops too much it pulls in air thru itself.

Oh hey.... another question.... What do you guys think about the products that HKS makes? I thinking about getting a exhaust from them.

I'm guessing you have it yourself... thats what i'm thinking about doing but on saturday the meeting at firestone I think it was Vic who said this to me... If I'm going to spend the 700 or 800 on the hks for only a catback why not spend it on turbo back setup.

I'm thinking... yeah that would be cool to have a turbo back and gain more hp but how would that effect the car over time. Plus I'm trying to gain the most hp without making my car really loud.

I think you misunderstood me... I ment in loud as in truck loud or the sound when someone buys the wrong muffler for their car and its just a sh1tty sound loud. I fine with correct setup racer loud.... lol that makes any since.

John... thanks for the links. I just got the chance to read them and it did answer the questions I had on deciding on replacing the intake or not. I think as of right now, the best thing would be to just replace the stock filter and a higher quality drop in filter for the air flow until my car is more modified that it need to better intake system. Thanks again... ;)
