I've been doing alot of research into it and it seems like the most logical way to go. Is there any reason why i shouldnt use openecu with someone on here's stage two map? I just cant see spending alot of money on an accessport when i can get the same features out of a free program. This is still a little way off for me because I still live in Utah and wont be moving back till the end of the school year. Thanks for the input.

Have the car tuned by somone before using an off the shelf map. Otherwise it is an excellent alternative to more expensive engine management devices.

I am going to be picking up a tactrix cable and start playing around pretty soon here. It certainly looks like the best way to go short of a stand alone system.

Let me know when you get back in town, I live just south of 46. :)

I got one of those last year. Been using it for ECUExplorer data logging. Works great.

I too have the Tactrix cable. I haven't started playing yet, but this weekend maybe i'll start. I have a base map, but from what i've heard it needs lots of tweaking before it's reliable.

Yes. As long as everyone doing this knows that, they'll be in good shape. On a side note, all this free software is absolutely awesome. Big props to the guys at engunity and tari logger.

I haven't seen an unreliable map, but maybe I'm lucky.

If you have gremlins in your electrical system, a modified map might trigger a cel that would never occur under the stock map. wot_boy had that problem, and had to dial back his boost with walloftvs' help.

But the maps available for free are generally safe. I haven't seen any "My Engine Blowed Up!" threads on enginuity.
