Sorry don't know if this a hijack but it is the mtorcycle thread. just curious if anyone else is going to the AMA Superbike races at Road America May 31st-June 3rd. This will be my third year going and would highly recomend it to any motorbike enthustiast. Great way to spend a long weekend.
'02 SV 650 naked Carbin seat Dunlop Qualifiers Bar end conversion fender delete I've got 2300 clocked since the weather warmed up. I'm located in the mound/minnetrista/orono area and am always down for a ride as long as its with people who dont **** around. If you cant pass the drivers test on the bike you are going to be riding, my recommendation would be to get some more practice on that bike while you still have your permit. Do not add a passenger and night riding to your list of issues if you cant ride your bike correctly at slow speeds, you WILL put it down and it will be a mess. Go to a big parking lot: Use the space between two stalls to practice doing U-turns. They are about that tight together on the test. Practice panic stopping as well. The test will make you get up to around 15-20mph in a short distance before really getting on your brakes. Remember to get back towards your rear tire to balance the shift of weight and prevent your rear from locking up too badly. The cone weave is difficult regardless of the bike your on, however, a good rider can make all of the cones. The trick is to keep your speed up, and keep the bike in on a tight line. Lean a lot and you should be okay. A guy on a 1300 harley did the cones, ANY sportbike should be able to handle it. Have good tires that are inflated correctly, an engine that can be counted on to idle correctly and not sputter on excelleration. A guy in my class had a bike that wouldnt sit at a smooth idle. He was failed because he put his feet down when his bike wouldnt move. You can pass if you put your foot down, just not more than once. You can pass if you hit two cones, but then you cant put your foot down, you get docked points for stalling, etc. I had no problem passing on my SV without putting a foot down or touching cones. The other two that passed the day I took my test were on a 1300 harley (saddlebags and all), and a 600 GSXR (had taken the test twice before) You can take the test 3 times before you are required to take a MSF course.
Last I checked it had to be > 249cc to be used in the test. The test is stupid, all parking lot balancing tricks. As if you're going to get hurt in the parking lot.
I agree that the test is pretty pointless, but the ability to slow-maneuver is something most people lack, even those that have their licenses. I'm lucky and have a pretty light bike. With a passenger though, I'm greatful for all the practicing I have done at slow speeds. Oh boy do I ever! ^That was just for this photo. I always ride with my jacket, gloves, and helmet.

I demo'ed one at motoprimo two weeks ago. I liked the handling, but was really unimpressed with the power. I'd say my SV could likely hang with it It had the tripoli exhaust option though....wooo that sounded hot. A lot more bark than there was bite. Sad to say. That thing sure liked to get down though!
Been a long time lurker in the forum, just never felt the need to bring any thing up. But thought this might be of interest to the guys/gals here who ride. The 2nd Saturday in June (June 9th, this year) is the annual Woodtick races in Cuyuna. All sorts of bikes are welcome, atleast by me I work on them all. 2 wheels is 2 wheels. There was a nice group of super motards last year. We,a few other guys and I usualy meet up at the Flame Burger in Columbia Heights/Hilltop between 8-9am and head out after breakfast if any one is in joining the ride you could meet there. Not every year but most years someone will organize a ride up around some of the iron range leaving the woodtick inn and ending there. http://cuyunacountry.net/index.cfm?pageid=116 directions are easy 169 north to 18 18 to CR6 CR6 to CR31 into Cuyuna.
^^^ LoL at racing actual wood ticks. Sounds like a great time but what do they do with the competitors when they are done with them?
in the past mine have been flicked on the ground but they do make the nice popping sound when they meet up with a flame
