I originally joined MNSubaru when I lived in Minneapolis and went to the U of M. Now I am moving to Duluth from the UP for work after graduate school. Now I have the task of finding an apartment in Duluth/Superior in the next month. Anyone have any suggestions? Places/landlords to avoid? We are looking for a decent apartment/duplex, trying to avoid college housing that we have been in for the past 5 years. Any help is appreciated, I am looking forward to being back in MN.
I am glad to be headed back (Though I will be working and am considering living right across the border). I was actually going to send you a message about getting started building fishing rods.
Thanks! Sounds like we are headed to Duluth next weekend to check stuff out. We really haven't spent any time there, just passed through between here and Minneapolis. Any help is appreciated.
Chesterwood Apartments just south of Saint Scholastica http://collegerentals.com/Chesterwood-Apartments-apartments-Duluth-Minnesota/ This is a good choice if you're looking for a clean, quiet, safe place with absolutely no party atmosphere. I know a 2 bedroom corner unit is becoming available there in the next month. It's close to mtn bike and hiking/running trails if that's your thing too.
Depending on how long you plan on staying and your finances, buying a house might be a better option. My rent used to be $1000/mo and now my mortgage/ insurance is $600.
Yeah, we are considering buying a house in the next few years, but unfortunately finances and the timeframe of our move (First day of work May 23) isn't going to work for buying anything right now. I think we will be staying in the area for a while, so it is something we are thinking about down the road. I want to be more familiar with the area before I figure out where I want to buy anything. Anyone have any experience with Shiprock Management or Bowman Properties? Seems like they have most of the properties in the area... Thanks LawnMaster, I will give that place a call. It looks a lot like the place we are in now. We also have a dog which is semi-limiting our options to this point.
I work with Shiprock (provide their IT support) and they do seem to have a lot of properties. Cannot say to much of how the locations are condition wise, but we do provided wireless internet to most of them and I know that works really well! If their apartments are on par with the condition of their main office (which I have been to) then I think you are going to have a nice place to live. I can get you some contacts at SRM if you need.
Thanks for the input Ctracey, we are going to check out a few of their properties next monday and also checking out a few places through other property owners. Hopefully we find something soon, I start in 3 weeks. We are excited to head back to Minnesota (In my wife's case, partially because she will be within 100 miles of the nearest Target).
Found a place and am officially living in Duluth. Apparently the weather this week wanted to test how watertight the old house we are renting is...
