Don't forget, these events fill up FAST, so if you want to go, get signed up sooner rather than later.

Interested to see what your car can do, especially since you're in street tire. ;)

I am as well. My RE01Rs ended up not working out, so I am running the stock tires, Dunlop SP 600s that have a year of street life on them. I'll have to kill them before I can get some new ones though.

Matt (yellow S2K) is going to be co-driving with me this year so that I can work on improving myself.

 Yeah, they are ALL fun runs, right!

Hopefully we will get a few of them this year, or we can work on that 'no passenger' rule with the club. I joined MAC for this season, so maybe I'll be able to go to a meeting and bring it up.

I am also planning on attending a couple of the TNT days or maybe the new EVO school this year.

I'll be doing the Sunday event, not Saturday though.

The no passenger thing has to do with requirements for the club's insurance policy... no ride-alongs on competitive runs, except instructors. If you sign up for a test-n-tune, you can swap cars, ride along, etc, all you want.

What happened with the RE-01R's? Didn't you get some on that Tirerack closeout deal?

I was told that you couldn't even ride along at a TNT unless you are an instructor. I also know that there are groups that do allow a ride along on comp runs, why can't we get something like that here? What kind of money are we talking about in differential?

On that, I am an idiot. I went to TireRack and it said that my car had 17s on it (never looked at the car), so I bought 17s. Turns out I have 18s...:ugh:

So are you running the S2k or the Subaru?
I'd warn you that they're extremely different cars (so I've been told, I'm too tall for an S2k)

Oh and I'll be there, probably holding down ESP alone.

We're going to be driving the Scoob. I too cannot fit into the S2K without a very large shoehorn, and then it's 'fat guy in a little coat' kind of action.

The only club that can currently do ride-alongs on competition runs that i'm aware of, is the SCCA. the reason they can do that, is because they have enough money to be their own insurance provider, so they write their own rules.

We at MAC have to comply with the insurance company we have, and if they say instructors only during competition runs, then it's instructors only. Sorry, but no motion will change that, unless someone can come up with an insurance provider that costs equal or less per event, and allows everyone to ride along.

then we just run into the clear competitive advantage of people riding along to see the course at speed. believe it or not, it can help.

Matt told me that in the Steel Cities region they were allowed passengers, but I don't know if that is part of SCCA or not. I have heard (but have no personal knowledge) that the Porsche Club and the Corvette Club that runs at DCTC will also allow it.

I have heard it mentioned on MNautoX, but the response is always to bring it to a meeting where it can be discussed. Since I was not a member last year I didn't attend and have no idea if it was ever brought up. It's probably something that gets brought up enough that the board is sick of hearing about it.

If everything goes as planned tonight, my friend Dan should be there in an 05 STi... if not, he may end up driving my car.

Should be fun, but I don't plan on going Sunday too. Too much money, time, and tire tread for me... especially if they just run reverse course.

I will be there, now my car is in SM. Making it at least 5 different classes I have run my subarus in.

Its not going to be competitive, 3 year old half dead re070s, its not exactly a prepped sm car.

    a quick search yeilds this:
    http://www.steelcities-scca.org/
Which would lead me to belive that he is speaking about an SCCA Club.

Porsche Club of America has their own insurance as well, being a much larger club, but i believe they still use the Met-Council insurance like MAC does, and restricts to instructors only on competition runs. being a registered instructor with mac, i have been asked to instruct at their events as well, which is acceptable as there are waivers on file with insurance company.

Corvettes of Minnesota also use the Met-Council insurance, and carry the same rules regarding riders and competition runs. again, instructor privlidges are allowed, and COM draws on the instructor pool that MAC has generated due to their talent and insured status. The only exception to this may be their yearly NCCC event (national corvette car club) which may also carry their own insurance.

I do not personally recall any non-instructor ever riding along for a competition run at any event with either of these clubs.

Basically, the insurance mac and most of the local clubs use is provided under the umbrella group of the Metropolitan Council of Autosports Clubs. http://met-council.org/ They are who you would have to communicate your change too at one of their meetings. mac has strong pull with the group, but council rule changes have to be performed at their events.

Don't think this is something we haven't asked about a lot. we do want it, it's just not feasible with our current agency. they're not willing to potentially at minimum double their liability on every run taken of every event. the only agency that provides allotment for ride alongs is insurance provided by large scale car clubs, which we at mac and met council are not a member of.

It comes up quite a bit on the mnautox forum, maybe you saw this thread...
    http://forum.mnautox.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5631

I thought it was due primarily to insurance, but one post by Steve seems to indicate that that isn't necessarily the case. Or maybe like Shane sugessted it would take a policy change and thus more $$$ for the insurance co.

Anyway there is typically a lot of resistance, I'm sure you could bring it up again, though imho I think the open-ness of the test-n-tunes provides enough opportunity for people to do that sort of thing.

My wheel wells will be pretty well stuffed with 225 star specs, but I understand driver is a big part. I like to think I'm decent, but as a newb to the league, I expect to get owned. Should be fun anyways.
