I'd like to get beat by more subaru's than miata's, so please sign up! MOWOG Autocross Series - Event #3: http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmEventDetail.Show?psevent_id=9741
Sign up, shred a little rubber, have a blast with the rest of us yahoo's. Watching isn't nearly as much fun as participating. If you are only going to come and watch get a wristband (sign the waiver) and head out somewhere you have a good view of the course. It's better up close.
He is right...watching an autocross is mmmm boring. Drive. I am driving and I am a girl! My first time out there too!
what ham said... spectating is free, but to be honest, it never really looks "that fast" now when your in the car trying to navigate that stuff at speed... it feels very very fast. my firend's brother said that... i took him for a ride, and after flailing him around the back seat, he understood
DCTC may be slightly less noob-friendly, simply to due to the size of the site, it is a bit harder to keep tabs on everything that is going on. And if you get seriously out of shape and put it in the grass, there are a few places where you could get into trouble. Incidents like that are exceptionally rare though. On the plus side, since it is a road course, it may be easier to follow than the typical parking lot "sea of cones" - still plenty to keep you on your toes, but less daunting at first glance. There are instructors available, take someone with you your first few runs and you'll be fine. completely stock is perfectly OK. Just put some extra air in your tires.
I was kind of avoiding the question because all these MAC events are very n00b friendly, but I did get in a little trouble at the last DCTC event since I'm a big n00b. Without getting into details, if you **** up on a parking lot course, you'll probably just hit a few cones. At DCTC, worse things can happen. I have a feeling the course at this DCTC event will be a little more n00b friendly though. Don't let this stop you from signing up though. You're probably better than me, and I'm signed up. As far as going stock, yes that is perfectly fine. About a third of the cars are in a stock class. 11 spots left!
Noob's should be fine, just make sure you get familar with which parts of the course is a good place to temp fate. What usually happens is because these events are at lower speeds you have an abundance of grip so people tend to over drive their cars and often forget to or know how to balance grip with power/driver skill. Put her in one higher gear than what you'd normally consider for optimal power output and you should be fine. Now all you have to do is steer and tap the brakes ever so often. Enjoy!
For a newb- Take an instructor along for your first ride (or three). Instructors are free (with price of admission) and we have some of the best autocrossers in the country as instructors. On weekends when they are not driving there are a few of them that actually get paid to instruct. Bone stock is the best way to start autocrossing. Just fill up the tank, pump up the tires (48 psi min) and have some fun.
Hey Dumb question, but what all would I need to do this, other than register...I looked but found nothing, guessing a helmet of course.
helmet, has to be snell 2000 or 2005. You'll also want to inflate your tires to about 45psi. I would also recommend you get a storage bin to put all your crap in. You'll really wish you had one if it rains. You're not allowed to have anything in your car, including floor mats. Use sunscreen. Your battery must be secured, or you will fail the tech inspection.
Does anyone know where any pics have been posted? I drove yesterday and i hope someone got one of me. lol !
Yeah, not much talk about MOWOG 3 on this site this time, although, there were a good number of Subarus out there. The best place to go is MAC's own website and visit the forums: http://www.mnautox.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=3 or more specificaly: http://www.mnautox.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12092 I did take in-car runs, but I didn't walk around and take photos.
