Car: 2006 WRX Modifications: SPT Catback, Cobb catted DP, AP Tuned (Stage 2, 93 octane) Problem Description: CEL on with Cruise flashing (I understand the Cruise always flashes with a CEL?) Recent Modifications/Maintenance: Installed the DP and tuned with the AP about a month ago, no problems until this morning. Started my car, backed out of the garage, and noticed it while I was idling in the driveway. Restarted the car a couple times, hoping that would fix it (I'm a computer guy obviously...), but that didn't help. Stayed on the whole way to work, of course 94 was hell this morning. My AP is at home, but someone here an an iPad app that will read the CEL, so I will post that detail when I can today. From the little Googling that I've done on this, I found this info Its in one of the Cobb bulletins abut drilling out or getting larger restrictor pill like mentioned above. "We highly suggest that you do not operate your 2007 WRX or 2007 STi with a catless exhaust system. If you have a catless exhaust system, we highly suggest you install at least one, post turbocharger high-flow catalytic converter to maintain some exhaust gas back-pressure after the turbocharger. If you choose to not follow our suggestions then you can purchase and Copyright © 2007 Cobb Tuning, Inc. All Rights Reserved. install two items from your local Subaru dealership. The first item is Subaru OEM part # 09535A060, which is a replacement vacuum line where the restrictor pill will be located. The second item is Subaru OEM part # 22326KA120, which is a new restrictor pill that has a center hole machined to 1.20mm or .047”. The total retail cost for both of these items should be less than $6 USD. The restrictor pill will need to be carefully inserted in the middle of the vacuum line so the air can pass through the restrictor pill. It does not matter which way the restrictor pill faces as longs as the machined hole is perpendicular to the hose and air can pass through the pill." Here you go, directly from their bulletin. Thanks for looking and any help would be greatly appreciated - I'm getting all worked up about this! -Jeff
No one can help until you pull the CEL code. So pull that, post it up, and then we can help.... that said it's probably a misfire. Regarding your google search hits, it looks like you found 2 separate quotes from Cobb. Neither applies to you. The first one is just saying don't run a catless exhaust on an 07 wrx/sti without a tune. You have a tune. The second one looks like it is in reference to an 06-07 wrx with a vf39 turbo upgrade. The stock boost control system is bleed type and the restrictor pill diameters are different between the stock wrx and stock vf39. I remember doing this on my 06wrx back in the day.
Like sheen said, we can't really help you until you can give us specifically what the code is. And yes, the cruise will blink because of the CEL
Alright! The code we got is P1410. We cleared the code, and drove for a while, and it hasn't come back yet, but I suspect it will eventually. On a side note, after the code was cleared, it was tough to start the car up again. Anyone else ever run into that issue? Thanks in advance again! Jeff
That. Really easy to remove it. Just need to turn off the associated codes too. Pretty sure i have a spare pump sitting around if you need it. If you want to read up about it more, use keywords "secondary air pump, emmissions." We have a few threads on here about deleting it. Nasioc has a ton of (mostly useless) info on it too.
Thanks guys - I read up on it a bit using those keywords. Looks like it's not a cheap fix to get it repaired! It hasn't come back yet, but I suppose the next step would be to get the code if I get another CEL and take it from there. Would there be a consequence to leaving the flaky air pump in there, and just turn off the associated codes if they keep coming up?
