Just thought I would share, I know most of you guys are not into this. I'm building a D-Bucket. Body is a 1917 Dodge Bros Touring sedan. Back 2drs and bucket broke off when we pulled it out of the field. The frame is home made by using a Speedway frame for measurements. Rear end is a 411 posi out of a 69 Nova. Rims are Crager and Welds. I'm waiting on the UPS guy to bring my coil over kit and spring behind front axle. Now my next problem is do I use the front bucket or do I cut the front at the font of the doors and then use the back bucket with the back suicide doors? My goal is to get a rolling framing here pretty quick and then maybe trying to photo shop the bodys together. Anyway, it's been a fun start
I lov ethis stuff man... I so want to build hot rads and stuff.. problem is I dont know enough about them or have the money as of yet.... one day... keep posting the progress over the next 10 yrs... ha ha ha ha I am definitely interested in watching this project
Well, If you get a Speedwaymotor.com catalog you can almost put together a fiberglass T Bucket for around 8000.00 and thats buying everything from them except motor, trans and rearend which you can find local and cheap depending on what you want. I have a junker 85 turbo XT in my barn that I rob parts off of and it has a good running Turbo EA82 5 speed. I was toying with the idea of using that but it's just not a good looking motor outside of the car. lol I ordered a behind spring front axle assy and the spindle kit. Also have the disk brake setup coming for the front. Should have a rolling chassis in a month I would think. Only thing that can throw a wrench in this is the SVX. It's still in the shop with a bad trans and they are waiting on the Warrenty company to come back with an answer on replacing it. I will post pictures as I go along for you folks that are interested and if your out and about you guys are always welcome to stop by in Princeton to take a peek and share idea's. Just drop me a line for directions and if you can weld better then me thats a plus! lol
Yeah They would be pretty cool but there is a lot more work to use the rear bucket. If I go that route I will have to lenghten the frame and not sure if I can clear the rear kickup on the frame. Will see once I get the chassis rolling on wheels. I took a couple pictures over the weekend and I'm going to see if I can play with photoshop and get some idea's. I was down at the Back to the 50's Friday night and got the bug bad now to get it going. My main goal is have a basic driveable bucket for under 5000.00. Once the rear tires and front axle get here I will be just under 2000.00. I had rims/front tires/rearend and got the body free, just had to haul it away. Bought the frame at Paradice Carshow swap meet last year for 150.00. So far I'm having a blast but I think when I get to the body the real work will begin.
hey, I was down there as well, we camped over night tho, I wonder if you saw the car down there... I am surprised I didn't see you down there. anyways, if you need help with the build, I can always help, we have built quiet a few at our house
Cool! I'm just flying by the seat of my pants here and looking at pictures. lol Going to join the Bucket Bridgade too and get some help from them. Seemed like a nice group of people.
Well The project will have to slow down now because of the expense to replace the trans in the SVX and I also lost a Great friend over the weekend. He hires the kids from church to help out on the farm and was out bailing hay. He had a stroke while driving the tractor and was able to get it stopped so no one got hurt and then he blacked out. He passed on to a better place acouple hours later. Left behind a loving wife and 3 adult children. You will be missed Ron, please keep his family in your prayers..... So tonight I decided to keep my mind busy and worked on the frame. Ron got a kick out of what I was doing here, I wish he could have seen it finished. Here are tonights pictures:
