It's a completely stock '93 Legacy Turbo. I almost feel bad turning this into a rallycross/future project car as the interior is in mint condition. Now I just have to find some tires for it and get it all titled up, so I can be ready for Corcoran.
I'll be running stock for now, unless my tire choice bumps me up to another class. I'm diggin the class 3 hitch. I wonder if that can be used as a vehicle recovery point?
I would think so. Most of those hitches require you to remove the rear tow hooks and use those mounting points
Amy, I can loan you a set of 5x100 15" wheels with Pirelli rally tires (ex Mayhem Racing even!) for Corcoran if you' want. They'd put you in Prepared AWD though. If you could find the cheap snow tires Utecht was talking about a couple of months ago, those would allow you to stay in Stock, I think. Last I talked to Wray, he had some 15" rally tires he was loking to sell, and you can pretty much always get them at decent rates from CPD, I'm told.
Thanks guys. I have to finish stripping the stock rims, the previous owner put aircraft stripper on the paint but didn't have time to clean it off (two down two to go). Right now the rims on it are miss matched sizes so I have to get on cleaning up the rims and getting some 15" tires to put on them. I did look at Fleet Farm yesterday in Brainerd, I remembered Marks' tip, but they were gone. They kind of look at you funny when you ask for snow tires in July and its 90 deg outside. Suggestions on tires I can drive to events on? I don't mind being in prepared. I know Stick (Brent) bought some Hankooks for not too much. I see you swapping rims at events Vector, looks like hard work. I'm sure its worth it though. I'll have to talk to Mike when he gets back from Maine Forest Rally but he's taking an extra week of vacation out East after the event so may be hard to coordinate in time for Corcoran. I could always put my winter rims with Hakkas on to give me time to figure tires out. They are on 16" rims though and stick out a bit on my impreza, don't know if they would fit inside the wheel wells on the legacy.
Guess who's Morrie's Subaru business card I found in the owners manual from when it was new? It said "Dave Wray, Team Leader"! How weird is that?!
Should be the same bolt pattern between your WRX and the Leggy. The 15" wheels are the ones I used on my WRX at Shoting Star, but I'll be running the Sentra at Corcoran, so they'll just be sitting in the garage. Subarus are like Legos. The DMS struts on your WRX would probably bolt right onto the Legacy. Your winter wheels/tires should fit just fine. The thiung about swapping tires/rims at events is that I don't have to worry about pushing too hard and not being able to drive home because I destroyed a tire (now, having a street tire go down on the way to the event, like I had last time is a whole different matter). Plus, the difference on the gravel tires is like driving a whole different car. And you know that eventually, since you have this car, you'll want to use it working rallies, and then you're going to want gravel tires anyhow, and... Gota finish getting the exhaust pieces welded up for the SE-R so I can start making a real lightbar for it.
Thanks Vector, I would love to borrow your gravel tires for Corcoran. That'll give me time to maybe get some used tires from Mike Wray when he gets back. I'm going to try and finish stripping the alloys this week and get some street tires on them or maybe get a set of steel rims to put road tires. Then I can save the alloys for when I get the gravels for rallycross and in the woods. I was talking to Mike Wray during Shooting Star and he also thought the DMS would bolt right on. My plan is to swap out the DMS, and Alpha and ham radio into the legacy. But it may take me some time, doubtful before Corcoran. I'm going to have to sit down with the Marks at Corcoran to help me plan what to do. This is so fun! Darn those Marks...
