The new turbo is a PT61, T350 turbine wheel, T3 .63 A/R turbine housing, with a 4" / 2.5" compressor housing. Hoping for 380-400whp on pump (E-85) out of this :biggrin:
Hoping for 380-400? I think your expectations are pretty low. I think you can get more than that especially if you run E85.
to answer the questions/concerns: hofit: It's on a 2.0 liter, and I want it reliable, not bleeding edge tune. I know I can get more, but on the street 400 should be plenty. I'll probably have another map made for strip use w/ E85 and another yet with C16. 2.5~RS: on a WRX 2.0 liter fobiawrx: DB will be tuning it most likely (or P&L). Right now the car is at Straight Line Specialties in Fargo. They are making the kit (and a SMIM hopefully). WRX1: Running modded injectors right now, if I need to upgrade to bigger, I'll address that when the time comes. I know guys running GT35R's on modded injectors just fine, so I think I'll be ok.
But you need to remeber that with e85 you will need to run more gas to get the same afr. IIRc it is something like 35% more, so you will need to inject 30+% more gas just to get the same tune as regular pump gas. I know for a while, alot of the guys with 2.0 wrx's with stock turbo's were running pink injectors just to keep up with the e85 mix (on a relativly stock tune). Russ
big turbo for a 2.0. why not get a 2.5 for $1500 from subaru or buy ILLICITWERX built 2.5 for $3500. that 20 is a week motor. open deck ftl!
Why.....let's see....I have the 2.0 already, I have a t-sleeved 2.0 laying in the garage for when this one goes and if that one goes as well then I'll think about my options. It's not like I'm praying for this thing to be a miracle block and make a billion whp. The other reason why I like the 2.0 is that by going 2.5 I feel like it loses "Rally Car" status since WRC limits motor size to 2.0. I guess thats just me being anal, but that is how I feel about it.
I don't have a 5th gear (built 4eat, high stall TC, TC lockup mod...oh and i'll probably be spraying out of the hole as well) According to Precision Turbo, the spool characteristics are similar to that of a GT30R, which have been successfully used on 2.0 liter blocks. I was told to expect to be at full boost (only going to 19 psi) by ~4200 rpm. I already rev to 7400 giving me 3200 RPM of usable powerband.
good luck with that...... that auto will have a hell of a time spooling that driving around. from a standstill you will be good but not rolling under 4 grand. and how did you reset your rev limit with an auto? i was told that no one has the ability to chang the shift point in the auto unless you buy passed the tranny computer.
Why don't you just go with the sleeved block in the first place so you know you're golden? If you build and tune it right you'll be fine. I don't know much about the 4EAT. Can it handle that power? You may want to research some torque converters to see if that'll help with drivability as it seems to be a larger turbo given your displacement and AT. There could be some big lag involved. Maybe a MT swap?
from what i have herd the at tranny is a grate drag tranny but you need a way higher stall then what pt or ipt does to them. i had an auto in my wrx and with a vf22 it wasent even that good when you drive around cause the tc doesent slip enuff to get to your power band. from a dig it was fun! but with that big of a turbo on that small of a block you need the extra tq the 2.5 puts out.
It's not that big of a turbo, only about the size of an SC61 really. I spent a good amount of time talking to Precision about this, and this is the turbo they recommended as a street/strip setup for my application. As for those concerned about the transmission, don't be. Its built to ESX specs. The TC was setup by ProTorque to be a very very high stall (when the brakes were vacuum locked with my 18G I was able to rev to 5500 RPM on launch) As for why I don't put the sleeved block in up front, I dunno, I guess I want to check the limits of the stock block?
I wouldn't worry, that's considered a street turbo in the DSM world, even on the 2.0 engines. Full spool by 4000 rpm is for sissies.
I think so too, i'll probably have to add a 50 shot to get me spooled quick enough to cut a light, but other than that it should be just fine I think...
I bet axles and driveline parts munch themselves apart before the block goes. he is only running modded stockers which he WILL max out quite easily. Its gonna be close...I just seeing the modded stockers really limiting the amount of power that you can put down. I am currently in the process of putting a T3/T04E into my car, which is a good size turbo. Work is being done by PHATsuby. I am also running modified stockers by WRX1 and I have already talked to jeorge (riftswrx) and he said I will max them out real easy. If you wanna see those numbers I say your first move is to upgrade the injectors, plain and simple. Especially if you want to run E85
I do plan to upgrade injectors IF it is warranted. If I run out of fuel, I buy new ones, if I don't....well then I won't. I had some MAJOR fuel adjustments in the fuel tables to lean it out enough with the modded stockers on E85. I'm thinking I will have enough fuel, but if I don't, well, they still make aftermarket upgrades, right? Not too worried about axles/driveline parts, with an auto you are preloading the whole drive train so you don't get the shock normally associated with a manual trans car.
talk to rifts about busting the axles or differentials. I have a little concern for my car and how much my own AT can last. If and when it blows though the plans I have are unbelieveable
You will bust diffs. Rifts snapped his center and his rear diff on a hard launch, and IIRC that was with his 2.2 and a sr40. As for running e85, you run richer ALOT richer for e85, not leaner (unless you plan on building a new motor). Russ
I'm not saying I won't bust diffs, just not as quickly as 5 speeds is all. But the way I worded it sounded like I meant I would never bust them...point taken, previous comments recanted. With E85 I know that I need more fuel, not less. I was just stating that when I was tuning for e85 I was still pulling fuel in comparison to the stock maps once I modded the injectors and therefore have some extra fueling capabilities. Thats all I was getting at. If I need more fuel, I'll get larger injectors.
