so i was down on university with my friends when we turned a corner on plato. well two cops were in the middle of the street half way down. we drive past and go to the end of the street and are getting ready to turn and all of a sudden i see cherrys on. so i pull over naturally. he gets out and comes up does his whole "license and proof of insurance" shpeal. then the stupid question, do you know why i pulled you over? me: "no i don't know, why" he ends up telling me that the headlights i'm using were amber and that they need to be white. i instantly thought of hid's and the asortmant of colors you car get. well after he sits in his car and decides to write me a ticket a jetta rolls past with red halo lamp and purple headlamps. long story short i'm going to be going to court for illegal headlights. then he proceeds to tell me it is a moving violation. st. paul cops can stfu.

where is officer ray ray when you need em?! sigh. i feel ya nick. that was a B**** move of the cop. probably had nothing better to do. i mean he was sitting in the middle of the street, not even helping the people with the broken down honda in that parking lot next to him. what an ass!

like i said b4. you can request to know when he has vacation time...then set the court date to one of those days when he is gone. he will be WAY less likely to show up to defend his ticket if hes trying to have a BBQ with some beers. im sure he knows how bs that ticket was too. i love how you walked up to that jetta owner later. you got it up the ars

Were the people in the Honda injured? Or blocking traffic? something that would need the help of the police or would a tow truck be a better answer?

NMDAYTIME-Are your headlights legal for your car? I didn't notice if you said they were stock or stock replacements.

reminds me, one of my relative was driving this one night and one of his headlights out. so he got pulled over. He knows why he got pull over and corperate very well. The office and him were still talking when a car came by with one of his headlghts out too. He said "what about him officer? should he get a ticket too?" Officer was looking at the other car. My relative said "If i get a ticket then he should too" (said it respectfully). Officer think for a few moment, "ok, I'll let you go this time, but fix your headlight".

ive been pulled over for my hids. didnt end up geting a ticked but the cop insisted that i look up the regulations on headlight. cop wouldnt just tell me what it was. but any ways i never found any thing saying that i couldnt have them. this is about all i found.

    MN statute
169.64 PROHIBITED Previous match LIGHTS Next match ; EXCEPTIONS.
Subdivision 1. Bright light. Any lighted lamp or illuminating device upon a motor vehicle, other than a Previous match head Next match lamp, a spot lamp, or an auxiliary driving lamp, which projects a beam of light of an intensity greater than 300-candle power, shall be so directed that no part of the beam will strike the level of the roadway on which the vehicle stands at a distance of more than 75 feet from the vehicle.

Police dept and city attorney's offices link thier calenders so this is less likely.
Also, officers (at least in CR) get paid a lot of money for showing to court, so they do.

    What were you cited under?

As for HIDs, thats a DOT violation, don't know if its codified in MN law.

i didn't have hids, i drive a 93 626(winter) that have yellow not amber headlights. they are dot approved and in no way harmfully to anyone in the street. i even lowered my lights cause i was told they look bright but never that they were illegal.

169.64 no they aren't oem i know what the law says now
Subd. 2. Colored light. Unless otherwise authorized by the commissioner of public safety,
no vehicle shall be equipped, nor shall any person drive or move any vehicle or equipment upon
any highway with any lamp or device displaying a red light or any colored light other than those
required or permitted in this chapter.
    but it also says
Subd. 4. Blue light. (a) Except as provided in paragraphs (b) to (d), blue lights are prohibited
on all vehicles except road maintenance equipment and snow removal equipment operated by or
under contract to the state or a political subdivision thereof.
but i don't see people getting pulled over for that

They're referring to red and blue strobes/rotators, ie Police/Fire/DOT truck lights. I doubt you're running any of those on your vehicle (or else you'd be in a whole different situation). It does not in any way refer to the color temp of your light kit.

from what ive herd a few times. you can request this from your local government. it might have been for another state but ive listened to people talk about how to better your chanses when bringing your tickets to court. they have usually said that they went to the cityhall or somthing and got the information on vacation times for officers. it might have to do with the fact that they arent paid by a private owner. they are paid by tax dollars.
i could have the totally wrong idea but its just what i herd.
