need a new stud

    so i bought tom's rims the prodrives pff7s...well, today i got them on at discount tires; apparently they said they stripped one of my studs.....anyways... i went to midas to get a quote on getting it replaced and they quoted about 100...anyone know any place cheaper if possible?

    Is that an STi or 2.5/WRX?

    Also, Front or Rear wheel stud?

    Well that studs are cheap only $3... as far as labor goes i don't know. I think you need a special tool... Service said its about an hour job maximum

    hmm..thats what i hear about the stud, but 100 bucks for labor is kinda crazy for 1 stud.but if i'm left with no other option..it looks like i'll have to do it

    If DT is reimbursing you, what does it matter? Take it to the dealer and have them do it.

    I've replaced a few studs from my dumb ass and stupid shops. Just pound it out.

    i think i saw your car in the shop by the U on washignton ave.

    wheel studs are so easy to replace its easy. you pull the rotor off and disconnect the wheel speed spacer thing, and pounbd out the stud. finese it out and the new one in. put a ton of washers on the stud and then the lug nut and crank away on it till it is fully seated. put it back together and walla.

    this works, you may want to use some penetrating oil too

    ^ or a bigger hammer. be careful not to brake that wheel speed sensor if that is broken your abs is kaput.

    yeah thats mines..its already in the shop..i'm just waiting to get it back...
    what a hassle..i gotta go to DT tomorrow to get the money...gay..

    just leave it......4 of 5 is pretty good (laugh all you want. my DD has a broken stud in the front :biggrin:, haven't lost anything yet)

    that is exepensive, but remember they are removing your wheel, your brake caliper and rotor to do the job, they have overhead, insurance yada yada yada... kinda why I am glad I am out of the business...

    If you were down my neck of the woods it would take like 20 mins....

    see if Grimmspeed can do it...

    well i guess i'll update this..yeah...the shop by the U took care of it..they charged me 70 bucks for it i think..not bad considering midas quoted 100..anyways..they replaced it and everything..so i'm happy now...:biggrin: reimbursement is coming tomorrow so yeah..hahaha
