So my 99 RS-t wants more fuel. I have WRX injectors layin around, I already have a walbro 255 installed and a vortec RRFPR. I don't really like this set up and want to remove it when I get my ecu reflashed here shortly but I want to have a better fuel system in place when I do so. Anyone have any suggestions, should I just go with the WRX injectors in my stock fuel rails or should I look for after market fuel rails. And where can I find aftermarket fuel rails for my 99 RS. Thanks for the help guys! Adam
I think Cobb still has fuel rail kits for the GCs. I can't recall if the stock WRX injectors work in the Phase 2 SOHC heads in that 99 if it's still using the stocker EJ253. However new rails would probably solve that issue. Aside from the RRFPR what else are you using to control the turbo? Piggybacks controlling a turbo on that block is a ticking timebomb. I can't recall if there was ever a working ECU reflash for a turbo on that model, most everyone went with aftermarket ECUs like the TEC2, Link, Haltech, etc. Where did this turbo MY99 RS come from?
The WRX injectors supposely drop right into the 99 manifold fine. The '00-01 needs to have slightly different o-rings to fit the injecetors.
I turbo'd myself last fall, I'm runnin a split second piggy back and the ****er sucks, supposedly my ECU will accept the reflash but if for some reason thats false I"m goin to Emanage Ultimate soon. I'm just workin out small bugs right now. I have 2.5" turbo back and my gaskets are startin to leak so I'm gonna re gasket and redo the whole exhaust in 3". I'm only running 6 lbs of boost which on the 99 block is pretty conservative due to the 10:1 compression rather than 10.5:1.
I keep hearin that I need different O-rings for them to drop in my manifold but I thought they were supposed to fit right in the 99s
Which heads use the side-feed injectors though? I thought that was the issue with interchanging injectors... Speaking of gaskets have you had the head gaskets done on that engine? They'll go if they haven't already, even on a 4EAT. I ran 5.5psi in mine so it may be the same wastegate/spring I had. You're kinda lucky you have the 4EAT because at least then you only need to worry about the engine exploding, not the whole drivetrain. I haven't heard about results on the Greddy ECU but if it doesn't work you could always look into swapping in an EJ257 and its ECU in to the car. Be nice to see the new USDM STi plant in a GC, and you could still probably get away with call it an RS-T
Head gasket was changed before the turboin but who knows how long it will last. I am building a WRX block I got for next to nothing and gonna run it with a set of ported WRX heads. Will give up a lil bit of torque but I'm it will definately allow me to turn up the boost.
If it's one of the new gasket kits, say in the past couple years, then you'll be fine. The new gasket kits look pretty tough.
thats funny...there is no updated SOHC gasket, there is the turbo gasket for the sti and whatnot (which works and is alot better),and then there is the DOHC gasket which is upgraded, but yeah there is no upgraded sohc gasket yet.
